School News: Ms. Elston had a wonderful surprise this past week. Little did she know that when she was sent to another school for a meet- ing (a little diversion) she would come back to a class- room full of streamers, bells, a cake and many wonderful gifts. It was a surprise shower put on by her students and parents. Onc very special gift was a tablecloth that Phyllis Mitchell had designed and had been signed by all the kids in her class. Ms. Elston will become Mrs. Jamie Robinson on July 27. Congratulations. Mrs. Webster substituted for Mrs. Bennett for a few days this week. She said that Walton had a great hunch of kids. They made Father's Day bookmarks out of plastic weave and footprint birds cards. The grade 2 and 3s had a fun week doing pioneer cen- ters. They chewed pioneer gum (kernels of wheat), made bread and made butter from • whipping cream. The kids learned to make their own knitting spools, and button whizzers. Then on Friday they went to Seaforth to ride a horse. After that they had a . pioneer picnic eating some of their bread and butter and watermelon. Mrs. Crocker challenged the kids to a watermelon seed spitting contest. Helen boasted that she beat the kids hands down but rumour has it that the kids didn't agree. The grade 4s are continuing in their incredible edible reading and writing by read- ing some poems and stories. They had to come up with a menu for camp using some incredible edibles. Helen, Graeme, Shannon and Michael Craig attended the Craig 22nd family reunion on Sat. down at the • hell: About 40'•C-raigs attend; ed 'thr gathering Where they enjoyed games and a potluck supper.
