Morris Tract
fundraising
campaign
still needs help
Money keeps rolling in as
people jump on the hand -
wagon to save the Morris
Tract from the logger's axe.
In April, Huron County
Council agreed to extend the
purchase deadline of the
property to Sept. 6 to alloy.
the Nature Conservancy of
Canada more time to raise
$100,000 of the $285,000
needed to purchase the
property.
Since that time. the Nature
Conservancy has continued
to approach slower -moving
foundations for funds, and
Marylo Graham of the
Friends of the Morris Tract
says progress has been
steady.
She said approximately
515,000 has been raised
since the extension was
granted.
"Donations Continue to
come in from local and
regional community groups.
and there are fairly hopeful
signs at the national level."
said Graham. "But there is
still a funding gap
remaining. There is still a
need and there is still time."
The Morris Tract is a 144 -
acre forest located along the
Maitland River near
Benmillcr. It has remained
commercially undisturbed
for the past 20 years and is
now used primarily by
recreational groups such, as
the Maitland Trail
Association
