The other is Bob Carbert. Seven Ontarians in total will join the 109 previously inducted in this month's 17th annual ceremony, where deputy agriculture minister Ken Knox will speak. Hill has "provided strong leadership to the agricultural community through serving on various advisory commit- tees and as elected head of the Ontario Farmers' Union, and later the Ontario Federation of Agriculture, states a hall of fame press release. He also served on advisory committees to the Canadian Agriculture Stabilization Board, Ontario Farm Products Marketing Board and the Farm Income Inquire Committee. The various positions have "enabled him to articulate the farm position and needs effectively to provincial and federal governments," the award organizers comment. Carbert, who joined CKNX as farm director in 1949, later joined the CBC on Country Calendar and "has had a long and distinguished career in farm broadcasting." He served with both provincial and federal federa- tions of agriculture, and became an associate director in the information branch for Ontario agriculture in 1968. Later, he was executive assis- tant to Agriculture Minister William Stewart, for six years. In 1974 he became general manager of the Ontario Agriculture Museum and was instrumental in forming its hall of fame, a featured attraction. THE HURON EXPOSITOR, Juno 1, 11180.15 4-H Battery Blitz The Huron County 4-H Leaders' Association is again holding a battery recycling blitz this month and next. Vincent Farm Equipment north of Seaforth is one of eight county collection sites. Others include McGavin Farm Equipment in Walton, Hill and Hill Farms in Varna and Townsend Tire in Londesboro. The used lead -acid batteries are sold to a company in Mississuaga, where up to 98 per cent are recycled. Funds are used for 4-H programs. The leaders' group advises caution at all times when handling or transporting these batteries. Education awards presented Randy Banks, a parent advisor and friend of Walton Public School, is one of those who got a director's recogni- tion award in May from the Huron County Board of Education. He was Chair of the Walton Community and Sthool Support Group for two years. "In his advocacy role, he has served the children, and their families, well," the director's information newsletter states. " He will be missed." A trio of teachers at the same school -- Laura Scott, Della Bennett and Susan Elston - also were cited for director's awards for a "com- bination of efforts," among other things "generally, just rounding out WPS needs in an always helpful way." Teachers honoured Area teachers retiring at the end of this month were honoured May 29 when the Huron Women Teachers' Association met for its annu- al banquet. Among them were Marlene Britton of Doigappointed Joyce Doig of Seaforth has been given a two-year appointment to the Huron - Perth District Health Council by the Lieutenant Governor through Provincial Order In Council.
