HomeMy WebLinkAboutThe Huron Expositor, 1996-06-05, Page 7Local The Walton Free Press hot off the press Congratulations to Carrie Leonhardt who was the midget girls over all chantpi- on at the Regional Track and Field meet in Seaforth. The kids who went from Walton did a great job of represent- ing the school, On Friday "Play Day" was held with classes from JK to Grade 3 participating. The Grade 4's assisted the teach- ers in the supervision of the games. There were games like dodge ball, golf ball and spoon game, parachute play and aquatics. Mr. Myers was supply teacher for the Grade 1's on Friday and he enjoyed his time with the kids. They talked about what was in the medicine cabinet and what some of the warning signs on different bottles were about. The Grade 2's were able to go up the road to the Huron County woods with the kindergarten class. Mr. Bowers has been working up there for some time now cut- ting paths through the woods, and he led the way. The kids discovered tadpoles, frogs, water spiders and the skele- ton of the ground hog stole the show. The Grade 3's held their math contract celebration with games, finishing their pinatas and making pig pup- pets and lots of goodies to cat. Well folks it is hot off the press --The Grade 4 newspa- per called "The Walton Free Press'. Copies of this very informative paper are avail- able at the school. It is a must for finding out what has been happening over the past year. There is an Opinion Page which states, "Mrs. Vandendool thinks that chil- dren watch too much TV" Walton by Patty Banks 887-6860 and there are some very good comments about that. The kids have also begun novel reading about "Incredible Edibles". This includes books called "How to eat Fried Worms, Ice Cream for Breakfast and Chocolate Fever." The school yard sale was a great success as was the yard sales all over town. There was a lot of traffic through the metropolis of Walton. People reported that they got rid of a lot of treasures (I didn't want to call it junk). Margaret Craig and Betty McCall were greeters at Duff's United Church on June 2nd. Rev, shared the Old Testament reading of Genesis 1:1-2, 4 with the 5 girls that were being confirmed later on in the service. The choir sang, "Lord How Majestic Is Your Name" and then Leona and Ken McDonald came forward for the presentation, reception and dedication of thc marriage, registration table and a church outdoor sign, in memory of Leona's dad, Ernest Wesley Stevens. Kelly McDonald, Janice McCallum, Kerry McClure, Tina McClure and Katie Lmmrich were all welcomed as new members into the Church by profession of faith. The Music Making Moms (Lynda, Bernice, Marilyn, Louise and Bonnie) played and sang to a full house on Sunday night. The Moms travelled down from Owen Logan man receives Ordination C'ongratulations to Paul Kenneth Nicholson, son of Joe and Angela Nicholson, who received Ordination to the Diaconate at St. Thomas the Apostle Church, Windsor, on May 28. Cathy Glanville is the pro- prietor of Cathy's Shoppe located near Walton which features wooden crafts and collectibles. Jo Ann Bowen's name was incorrectly spelled and Gregor Campbell, who has a photography window display at the store, was inadvertently missed.
