GIRLS: Junior 400m: Julianne Crowley, third, 1.14.5. Junior 80m hurdles: Melissa Robertson, fifth. Junior javelin: Michelle Henderson, 19.64, BOYS: Midget 100m hurdles: Mike O'Reilly, fourth: Junior 400m: Ben Murray, second, 55.0. Junior triple jump: Ben Murray, second, 11.78. Junior long jump: Ben Murray, fourth. 5.49. Junior javelin: Joe MacRae, third, 39.76; Matt Johnson, 37.96. Senior 1500m: Jeff Etue, fifth. 4.54.2. Senior 2000m steeplechase: Jeff Etue, second, 7.51.5; Matt Johnson, third, 8.53.9. Senior 110m hurdles: Justin Rodney, second. Bears successful at WOSSA The SDHS Track and. Field Team had their most success- ful WOSSA track perfor- mance in years with all com- petitors achieving personal bests. Three athletes, Marcy McCall, Carly Price and Amy Hamon have qualified for the OFSAA Regionals in Windsor this weekend. However, it is thc perfor- mance of thc other team members who should be acknowledged at this time. Sarah McLellan placed sixth in the midget 3000m and eighth in the 1500m. All of- our • hurdlers, Ian McMillan, Bruce Griffin, Melissa Harrison, and Carali McCall all posted personal bests in their event. As well, our sprinters Carolyn Litt and Lisa Reynolds posted personal bests but did not qualify for the final. All in all it was a great dayfor our track ath- letes. GIRLS: Senior 400m hurdles: Carly Price, fourth, 1.10.1. Senior 100m hurdles: Carly Price, second, 15.9; Marcy McCall, fifth, 16.8. Senior ambulatory 100m: Judy Home, scratched. Midget 300m hurdles: Amy Hamon, second, 48.6. BOYS: Senior wheelchair 1500m: Iason Shortreed, second, 14.34.1. Lawn bowling season now underway The Scaforth Lawn Bowling Club opened for the 1996 season on May 20 with five greens in play for after- noon•bowling. Winners for the ladies were Betty Tilley; first and Mary Finlayson, second. For the men, Erich Matzold won first and Jim Stotts, second. A pot -luck supper was served at 5:30pm with host- esses Thelma Coombs, Grace Broadfoot and Ida Diehl in charge. Senior Games Lawn Bowling was held on May 23 at the greens with the rink of Erich Matzold (skip), Mary Finlayson (vice)' and Art Finlayson (lead) winning against Ron -Knights' team. The winners will now advance to ,the Senior Games in Exeter on June 17. Hockey players rated for drafts Scaforth n4tive Boyd Devereaux of the Kitchener Rangers is rated fifth in the first round in National Hockey League central scout- ing's final ratings for the June 22 entry draft in St. Louis. ' Also, Mark Van. Dooren of RR 1 Scaforth, who plays for the local midgets and junior Centenaires, is rated in the 12th round in the final Ontario Hockey League cen- tral scouting -ratings before the upcoming major junior draft. The coaching staff of Dave Murray, Jim Campbell and Dave Akcy plan to return next season along with man- - ager Gregor Campbell.. Copies of thc past year's budget were distributed and reviewed by treasurer Catherine Wick and the board. The budget was accepted. More -lockers are planned to be built for the Centenaires before'thc beginning of next season. The team has advertised thc position of trainer with vari- ous schools and placed an ad on the local cable channel. A Centenaires co -cd slo- pitch fundraising tournament is planned for the weekend of August 16;,17 and 18 this summer at the Lions and Optimist parks. Food and beverages will available for sale. A licensed bar will he • operated at Lions Park. Age of majority only. Salaries up At last month's manage- ment committee meeting, salaries were increased for employees at the Scaforth and District Community Centres. - glair Dennis O'Conner explained , the financial impact is $1.,064 because the increase was effective as of April I. Cupboard bare for St.Columban Columban soccer "Miscellaneous" is now empty in this year's budget, so Seaforth Council has turned down.a grant request "due to budget limitations" from the St. Columban Minor Soccer Association. The association said there are 48 Seaforth children, aged five to 19, out of a total registration of 236 this sea- son. New fees for Bannockburn New entrance fccs at thc formerly free Bannockburn Wildlife Area, near Varna, will be used to offset thc cost of keeping the lands open to thc public because of dimin- ished provincial grants. Entrance fees will go directly to the particular property, says .the April monthly publication Insight from the Ausablc-Bayfield Conservation Authority. Motorcycle race Jon Bjerg of Seaforth lost his motorcycle trophy race to a London rider at the Grand Bend Motorplex May 12. His time was 15.156 seconds, an average of 84.90 miles per hour. The winner's time was 14.03, an average of 86.21 mph. for the Morrison Dam Conservation Area. It is a $2 per person fee. An alternative is yearly day pass- es for all the conservation authority's areas ($11 per individual or $32 per family), except Port Franks.
