Options open
Seaforth Council decided to
keep its options open at
Tuesday night's meeting and
didn't support a May 10 reso-
lution from arca municipali-
ties who oppose amalgama-
tion.
A motion to support the
anti -restructuring resolution
from Blyth. Brussels, East
Wawanosh. Hullett and
Morris by Couns. Heather
Rohinct and Michael Hak,
was later unanimously
defeated after discussion and
-sent to committee.
"We don't want to shut the
door on our options thcn
wonder why they might push
us around," Deputy -Reeve
William Tcall thought.
Clerk Jim Crocker said
knee-jerk reaction to the idea
of amalgamation to him often
seems simplistic, and there
arc many possible ways to
restructure
The arca councils favour
maintaining a two-tier system
of government in Huron.
They argue local government
as it.stands "is easily accessi-
ble to thc local ratepayer and
therefore should maintain its
autonomy and individual
identity."
Corrections
In a front page story last
week, the last name of a local
teenager was spelled incor-
rectly: Kyle Rea was the
SDHS student who collected
traffic violation statistics in
town.
A front page photo also
incorrectly identified a child
as being from the pre-school
learning centre instead of the
Seaforth Co-operative
Children's Centre.
