Ambulance Dispatching
Patients of Seaforth doctors ending up in Wingham
BY DAVID SCOTT

Some Brussels area patients
of Seaforth doctors are find-
ing that when they call an
ambulance for a medical
emergency, they arc being
talking to Wingham hospital.
This dispatching dilemma
was discussed by Seaforth
Community Hospital's Chief
of Staff, Dr. Mark Woidnik at
the hospital board's April 30
meeting.
Brussels seems to be on the
border of two ambulance dis-
patching services - London to
the south and Owen Sound to
the north. So depending on
what side of Brussels you're
on, you may he taken to
either Wingham or Seaforth.
From the village of'
Brussels, Wingham hospital
is one kilometre closer than
Seaforth hospital. And in
"Code Four" or life threaten-
ing situations, amhulance dri-
vers are bound by law to take
the patient to the closest hos-
pital, -said Woldnik.
"The closest isn't necessar-
ily the best," he said.
The problem that's being
enzountered is that in non-
life threatening situation's
(Code 2 & 3) patients are
being taken to a hospital
where they have no medical
history or familiar doctor.

cation, the school will receive

The board has also asked

Carroll to look at decentraliz-
ing administration by setting
