Golfing began with a bang
in Seaforth onthe weekend,
albeit about three weeks later
than usual because of our
strange cold spring.
'tecent weather has been
"brutal" on the game notes
Cam Doig of the Seaforth
Golf and Country Club who
says Saturday's new -event
was "first time on the-
- course."
Bill Dale doesn't care too
much about the delay now.

•Softball registration by
young people has declined

Marty Bedard says minor

Meanwhile minor soccer

Especially not after bagging a
hole -in -one on the 10th.to
start his season off on the
right foot, in the club's first
round of 1996:
Slightly more than 100
golfers, or 36 three-man
teams, took to the focal links
for Seaforth's "1st Annual
Spring Scramble" put on by
the club and three 'local busi-
nesses, 'spearheaded by Marc
Robinet, Brian Nigh, Jerry
Wright, Ken and Rod Doig.
Some swings may have
been rustier than "Billy's"
Saturday but competition was
keen.
it took a shootout to win the
day.
The brothers Murray of
hooky fame from Dublin
way - Rem, Pat and Greg -
were closest, to the hole with
their shots in the playoff, so
won thenine .with their score.
of 64, seven better than par.
The 'threesome of Harry
Jansen, Cary Doig and Mike
Marion 'lost the shootout but
also shot the 64 and placed
second.
Two threesomes were one
shot back at 65, and another
two. trios carded 66s, finish-
ing two back.
One shot to the rear were
Doug Fry, Bruce Henderson
and Wayne Parkinson, in
third, and Brett.Finlayson,
Albert Celotti: and Bob
McKenzie also bagged a 65,
finishing fourth.
At 66, in fifth were Lec►
Greidanus, Ivan Harrington
and Neil Baker. shooting the
same as Jim Kilgour, Tim
McKay and Brad Nadilow in
sixth.
Closest -to -the -hole compe-
titions sponsored by the local
business were won by Pat
Murray (third), Dale -with. his.
"bragging rights" ace (10th),
Brett Finlayson (13th), Leo
Greidanus (15th) and Jeff
McKellar (16th)
The first official day for
local golf also witnessed the
unwrinklingof a "bar cart" to
the Seaforth course, which
catered to golfers as they
played, courtesy of the
Ontario government's recent-
ly relaxed policies in regard
to liquor in certain' public
places.
This perhaps helped golfers
take out a -bit of the chill the
weatherman appears to have
left behind this spring.
Big tournament bates at the
Seaforth club this season arc:
May 22 - senior,
July 11 - ladies,
Aug. 3 - couples,
Aug. 27 - junior,
