CARDS OF THANKS NICHOLSON We would like to express our thanks to relatives, friends and neighbors who visited, phoned and sent cards to Beryl while she was in the hospital and helped us during the sudden loss of our wife, mother and grandmother. Thanks to everyone for their many acts of kindness, prayers, floral tributes, donations, sympathy cards, food and visits. A special thanks to Dr. Zettel and the nurses at Seaforth Community Hospital, Joanne Hardy, Pam Gordon, Eileen Malone, and the many others from Home Caro who looked after Mom for the past two years. To Reverend Kate Ballagh-Steeper, Father Hardy and Sister Rita, many thanks for their kind words and spiritual support. Our grateful thanks to the grandchildren and nephews for acting as pallbearers and flower bearers. The guidance and kindness of Ross Ribey and Ruth Townsend was really appreciated. Sincere thanks to the Ladies Aid of First Presbyterian Church for the lovely lunch served following the funeral. A special mention to Barbara Alexander for her -Tribute to Beryl'. No one else could have put tho words to paper and express what we thought of Mom We will always appreciate the warmth and comfort provided by our relatives at Helen and Allan's home. It will take roughly 33,00( cans to make up a ton. Tag day okay Scaforth Council has approved an application from the Alzheimer Society of ,Huron County to. conduct its third -annual tag day in -Scaforth on June 22. • Banquet ends The Senior's Bowling League ended for this season last Thursday with a deli- cious turkey dinner prepared by the Legion Ladies Auxiliary. President Betty Rutley wel- Bear Facts Art Attacks Students from all over the county have contributed work to the 'Art Attack' show at the Huron County Museum in Goderich. The art show opened on April 12 and runs until May 21, IOam - 4pm. Students from SDHS have submitted a variety of art: portraits, sculptures, etchings and sketches. Second semester Parents' Night will be April 23 from 7-9prn. Come out and meet the staff and sec the new library/media centre. April 24 is the date set for the SDHS talent show featur- ing Highland dancing, vocal .solos of 'What A Wonderful World,' 'Flying Free,' 'Music of the Night'; piano solos include 'Somewhere Out There' and 'Everything I Do, I Do It For You.' The, show begins at 7:30pm and all arc welcome to come and he entertained. The students and staff of SDHS would like to thank businesses that sponsored students in the co-op pro- gram. The Excellence in Education Banquet is May 1 at 6:30pm in the Goderich Township Hall, Holmesville. Contact Greg Sherwood at SDHS for tickets. Annual meeting held On. April 9 the Scaforth Women's institute held its annual Meeting. Doris Hugill welcomed everyone. Helen MacKengic read the minutes of the last meeting and gave r the treasurers report. Olive Papple gave the• report on the upcoming district meeting, May 16 at Bruccfield Church al 6pm. The district picnic will he July 2 in Dashwood. Gladys Doig gave a reading. Marjorie Rock Standing Committee: June "Colours" workshop The Huron County Children's Aid Society is holding a personality work- shop called "Colours" a week Friday, April 26. from 1 to 4 p.m. - It will he facilitated by Val Millson Jansen, who has done such workshops for the past four years. According to a press release from the society. "Colours" can help people in both their personal and professional lives, and is a fun and infor- mative workshop which Assists personal assessment of , strengths, weaknesses, inter- ests, dislikes and insights. The next meeting is May 14 at 1:30prn at the home of Olave Papple. Foundation hears Fryfogel speaker The annual meeting of the Van Egmond Foundation was held in the house on April 10. Executive for the new year was. appointed: chair, Bob Newnham; treasurer, lean Fox; secretary, Irene Okahashi. The speaker for the evening was Sally Hengevcld from Stratford, who spoke on the Fryfogcl Inn - past and pre- sent. The inn is open mostly for school children who find the main attractions to be the two murals painted on the walls, the two suicide doors on the second floor and best of all - the outhouses. The Inn was built in 1844 by Sebastian Fryfogcl replac- ing a log shelter built in 1827. It was Col. Anthony Van Egmond who persuaded Fryfogcl to build the inn which would accommodate settlers moving to the Huron Tract. Van Egmond was com- missioned to build a road from Wilmont to Goderich and provide shelter every twenty miles for travellers. Other inns were at Secbach's and Van Egmond had one midway between Clinton and Seaforth. Both Fryfrgcl and Scchach were known to Van Egmond in P^nnsylvania. senior's bowling this year corned all and grace was said by Tom Kale. Ron Bennett thanked the ladies for their effort. Ralph Johnston gave a few words in appreciation for the great league and said he will look forward to seeing everyone back in September. Next, the awards were given by president Hulley, Betty Leonhardt and Charlie Perkins: high team, Flames - Jack Strong, Art Finlayson, Betty Leonhardt, Fred Munnings, Betty Hulley, Leona McDonald and Marilyn Hodgert; low team, Maple Leafs - Eric Matzold, Sandy Doig, Gord Murray, Watson Reid, Bea Kale, Pat O'Reilly and Dave Sim; high average - Ann Wood and Ron Bennett; high triple - Olave Little and Campbell Wey; high single - Shirley Strong and Charlie Perkins and Eric Matzold (tied); most improved players, Marjorie Rock and Art Finlayson; per, feet attendance - Olave Little. A special award was given to Mary Finlayson who was the only player to bowl over 300. Ten games of euchre were then played with prizes to the following: high, Dorothy McCluskie and Ken McDonald; lone hands, Betty Oldacrc and Les Leonhardt; low, Betty and Bob Harris. The new executive for next season is: president, Betty Oldacre; secretary, Catherine Staples; treasurer, Charlie Perkins. New Festival manager named The Stratford Festival has announced that Sheridan College president and CEO, Mary E.
