Seaforth native Ken Doig
Jr., a long-time caddy on the
PGA tour who worked as a
spotter on CBS telecasts
some weekends until recently
losing that job for telling
what he heard in. the current
big controversy -about alleged
lcshianisrn, on the ladies pro-
fessional tour (LPGA), was
profiled at length earlier this
month in :the •weekly Grope
and Mail colurttn of noted
golf writer Lorne Ruhcitstein.
Doig, 42, got in trouble
with CBS for confirming
controversial comments
allegedly made by the net-
, work's LPGA analyst Ben
Wright; who was fired in
January. Wright said
Women's. breasts get in the
way of their making good
swings. although the woman
reporter he was talking to
said he used the word
"hoops".
-Doig told .reporters Wright
actu,ally said what he' later
denied, -and Sports illustrated
did a big special issue on.it
earlier this year..
He is caddying for Neil:
Lancaster these days.
The long-time local caddy
on the pro tour said the worst
part w„s when the man who
runs CBS golf said: "Who
the hell is Ken Doig anyway?
He's just a caddy."
Ken Jr..said that stung.
"That's not right. I'm a per-
son."
Doig was originally sup-
posed to he going to last
weekend's Masters as a CBS
-employee before his fall. He
was. scheduled to go instead
as a caddy for Lancaster, who.
missed the cut.
Rubenstein observed Doig
was the fall guy in the
lengthy lesbians in ladies golf
saga. hut concluded:
"He's also getting plenty of
attention. something usually
reserved for golfers not cad-
dies."
