Best -of -three series now
Centenaires and Hawks all even in Morenz final
• Last week was up and down
like a roller -coaster for the
.Seaforth Centenaires, who
played inspired sometimes
and awful at others
But they managed to heat
the .toughest team in the
Ontario Hockey Association
Junior Development League
twice, so effectively nar-
rowed
the odds and turned
their Morenz Division final
with the Exeter. Hawks into a
best -of -three series. .
The Cents nudged the
Hawks 2-1 in a classic nail -
biter at Seaforth, Sunday.
night, to even the best -of -
seven division championship
at two games apiece.
Game five was at Exeter
last night, after this paper
went to press. The sixth game

HARD TO EXPLAIN
But loc-al fans could he
excused for wondering where
all those wheels went Friday
night in the second game of
the playoff at Seaforth, when
it looked more like "Tiny
Talent Time" and your hasic
mismatch, .with the Hawks
humbling the hometowners
9-1.- • .
Exeter made it look easy,
helped by two -goal perfor-
mances from Steve Farquhar
and Nate Burns:
It was the second game in a
row the Cents had been
blown out at home. giving up
a total of 19 goals in the six
strange periods. which
includes the fourth=game of
their semi-final with Lucan.
which wasn't pretty either.
It was- 7-1 al the end of the
second, all over hut the won-
dering. with Van. Dooren
hreaking Nahrgang's shot at
the goose egg for the Hawks
at 11:32 of the second period.
Nahrgang. Seaforth's goalie.
last season who appealed for
his release Co the Hawks late.
last summer. got his shutout
in game three of the series at
Exeter. Seaforth played Netter
than Friday, hut most fans
commented they looked like
they were simply out-
worked, as the Hawks -won
most of the one-on-one hat-
tles for the puck and cruised
to a 5-0 victory to go one
game up in the playoff. Sean
Brown scored twice for the
Hawks.
The shutout left Seaforth
with only two goals to show
in their last nine periods
against Nahrgang, which
includes a 3-1 win for the
Hawks the last two times the
teams met in the regular sea-
son at Hensall on Super Bowl
Sunday. . -
But they heat him last
Sunday to set the stage for
this week's battle to the final
buzzer in the Mown/.
Going into last night's
game the Cents 'had a 6-3
won -loss record in the play-
offs, which includes- four
wins on the road. surprising
since they were good at home
hut only average on the road
during the season. The
Hawks stood at 6-4 since
playoffs began .as: of last
night. .
The winner will meet the
defending OHA champion
Thamesford Trojans. now 6-3
in the playoffs, for this year's
West (Yeck).Conference title.
They swept Lambeth in the
Thomas division of the con-
ference. • =
Besides Seaforth, Exeter
and Thamesford, three other
teams from the McConnel
C'onfe(cncc remain in the
hunt fo`r this season's OHA
crown - the Wellesley
Applejacks, who put
Tavistock out your -straight.
and Langton or Burford.
Langton had the upper hand
in that latter hest -of -seven
playoff. 3-1. going into last
night's scheduled game.
