To the Editor Home Care dismissal, `foolhardy' Dear Editor, . An open. letter to all mem- bers of Huron County Council. Rc:. Dismissal of Joanna Jasper. ' We have recently become awarc that Joanne Jaspcf has been dismissed from her position as theadministrator of the Home Care program of Huron County. . To say the least, we found this to he most incredible. This reaction of incredibility. ,was to he found in virtually every health care worker we could reach in the county. The overwhelming reac- tion was a mixture of disbe- lief and anger. The disbelief has its origin in the experience of working with an extremely effective and valuable service to sick people in this county. During the six years of Joanne's lead- ership, we have watched this organization grow and mature into a program with its focus consistently upon the sick people we serve. Joanne's management has. resulted in a program that has functioned with a 'minimum of bureaucratic interference. Joanne has been respected and admired by all of us. in particular, her own/staff admired her for her consis- tent dedication to the clients of Home Carc and for her skills with working with peo- ple, whether they be the physicians who work directly with her, or the nurses who work within thc organization. Ms. Jasper has earned much credibility and co-operation with many, many people, not just at thc county level, but also in thc provincial Ministry.of Health. The anger that we found in peoples' reactions stems from the strong impression that this decision was not made on the basis of merit. 11 is obvious to all of us in the health system. that thc current atmosphere of health care is one of very signifi- cant, imminent change. To lose the services and pres- ence of somebody as valu- able as Ms. Jasper in the health care, system of Huron County in these times, would be unfortunate enough if she had been' attracted away to some more senior position far away. To remove Ms. Jasper deliberately, seems to us to be ,foolhardy, reckless; and irresponsible. We elect councillors to prevent such diasters. Yours truly, Michael Dawson, MD Kenton Lambert.
