Public speaking held at Seaforth Legion

The Legion public. speaking
contest for students in local
schools was held last Sunday
with 20 students from Si.
James, Seaforth Public
School, Huron Centennial
School and Seaforth District
High School participating.
President John Lansink
opened_ the mec ling with the
carrying on of the colours
with Sgt -at -arms Errol
5killender • in charge. Youth
education chairman Charles
Perkins introduced the judges:
Janis Rose, Cal Caldwell,
Dick Burgess and Terry
Johnston. Time -keeper was
James Watson. In the story-
telling Grade 1-3, both entries
were very interesting and
entertaining with Matthew
DeJong, St. James School,
winning.
For grades 4-6, Kate
Johnston, Huron Centennial,
finished first. For grades 7-8,
Christine Graham, Huron
Ccntcnnial was first. In the
senior division, 'Jessica
Burgess, Seaforth District
High School, was the winner.
The winners• now procccd to
the Zone C Competition to be
held in Clinton on Alarch 2.
Congratulations from Branch
156 to all the winners and
.good luck' at Clinton. To
-everyone • who entered,. the/
judges had a very difficult
time. The calibre of the
entries improves every year
and you arc all winners just
by entering. •
Last Thursday the Ladies' '
Auxiliary' joined the branch
for the general meeting which
was very poorly attended.
Donations were inade to
Carly Price to attend an
athletic camp (S200), and the •
• legidn sponsored the Pec -Wee •

fees to two tournaments.

found quite a few items that
had been -missing For a while.
Friday was also Pay Day.
Mrs. Griffiths was the bank
ntauager and- she had six
student tellers to rain. This is •
a first for. -the class because
usu.illy only adults have the
feller ' jobs.
The Valentine's Dance -at
the . Walton Hall was_ a great
success .with people coming Brighton and from the Hocgy
from Grand Bend, Staffa and family in memory of Clifford

of the last meeting. Helen
gave the treasurer's report.

A workshop will be held

The meeting was then
turned over to Marjorie Rock.
She introduced the speaker,

Godcrich/Clinton/Seaforth. He

spoke on safety for seniors.
He g ve us a very special talk
on safety tips in your home.
We all left a lot wiser.
Valentine's contest was
presented by Marjorie Rock.
Prizes were won by Clarissa
Stewart, Betty Hulley and
Gladys Doig. The meeting
was adjourned. Lunch was
served by Helen MacKenzie,
Jean Keys and Jessie
McGregor. The next meeting
will be held on March 12 at
1:30pm.
