The Seaforth-Eginondvillc
Broomball League would like
to invite you to come out and
watch sonic excellent
Broomball action this weekend.
Seaforth will play host • to
their annual 'tournament. The
Snowmobile blitz
by Exeter OPP
Provincial police at Exeter
went on a blitz and laid 18
snowmobile charges a weekend
ago, seven more than they laid
all last winter. They stopped
240 snowmobiles and checked
owners for license, insurance,
ownership, and trail passes.
They also had a list of stolen
snowmobiles. About 10 have
been taken in the Exeter arca
so far this winter.
The group trying to raise
$285,000 in Huron County by
the end of February, to pur-
chase the Morris Tract lbr the
Nature Conservancy of Canada,
has received an anonymous
donation up to $100010, "on a
!Hatching donation specifically
for this project", says Friends
of the Morris Tract fundraising'
co-ordinator Rob Bundy.
More library work
Seaforth Council has ap-
proved some new drywall and
painting , where plaster "is in
very bad shape," hardwood
floor refinishing, and new
lighting for the rear of the
second floor inthe work order
for improvements currently
underway at the local library.
Administrator Jim Crocker
said the work wasn't included
in the contract and should eat
up the unexpended balance of
$11,530 in the contingency
fund for the library project,
which he reported was 75 per
cent complete at the end 'of
December, at last week's coun-
cil meeting.
Crocker said the Seaforth
Works Department has agreed
to do ,most of the painting
during a lull in its' wintcr
schedule, and the library staff
prefers to refinish the
hardwood rather than put car-
peting down on the second•
floor.
Harbour still OK
Ice hasn't been a big obstacle
so far this winter at Goderich:
Lakcrs arc still sailing into the
harbour, without the assistance
of the Coast Guard, to pick up
salt to ship across the lake.
That salt business is buoyant
because of the harsh winter
elsewhere on the continent says
Sifto aline manager Rowland
Howe. The Goderich mine has
delayed. seasonal layoffs
because of the continuing
shipping season.
Bus depots close
Cha -Co (Chatham Coach)
Trails is closing its Clinton,
Goderich and Exctcr depots
ots
this week.
"We know it strands the
smaller communities but the
ridership is so low we just
can't maintain it," a spokesman
for the bus company says.
The Goderich-London run
was cut down to once a week
(Fridays), with .a one-way fare
of $18.46, a year ago but
riders remained few and fares
couldn't begin to cover
operating expenses.
The depots shut down on
Friday.
