The Hensall and District
Horticultural Society launched
the 1996 season with its
annual general meeting on
Jan. 15. President Ann
Overweel welcomed members
and guests to the new
meeting location at Hensall
Public School, and following
a brief business session, a
video from the UWO Plant
Science Department on the
history of trees was presented
to the group. Two guests
from District 8, Shirley
McKague and Jean Whitby,
were in attendance to offer
support to the Hensall group.
Luanne Phair was on hand
to conduct the installation
ceremony for the 1996 slate
of officers and directors for
the horticultural society:

The family of the late Clarence E.
Reid wish to express their sincere
appreciation to friends, neighbors
and relatives for the many acts of
kindness, messsages of sympathy,
flowers, cards, food brought to our
homes, memorial donations and
visits to the funeral home. Special
thanks to Dr. Wallace and his staff,
the nurses at South Huron
Hospital,, the ambulance services,
O'Connor Funeral Home for their
support and guidance, to Rev.
Armen for his comforting service
and to the pallbearers and flower
bearers. Our thanks also to the
Hensel, Arena for the use of the
hall and the Hensall Legion and
the Ladies Auxiliary for the lovely

The family and friends of the late
Nelson "Nelly" Williamson express
their sincere thanks to friends,
neighbors and relatives for the
many acts of kindness, floral
tributes, donations and visitation to
the funeral home. Special thanks
to the Victorian Order of Nurses,
Town and Country Homemakers
and the professional staff of
Seaforth Manor. Sincere
appreciation to Pastor Phillip
Kaze!k, First Baptist Church for his
comforting words and service at
the funeral. Also thanks to
McCallum Palle Funeral Home for
assisting, especially Rick Palle for
understanding. Finally, my thanks
to the pallbearers. Nelson didn't
have a lot of money, but tte,had a
lot of friends: He -was a
hardworking, very friendly, honest
man. We will miss his jokes and
laughter. Thanks to everyone.

Plans for the upcoming year
include an 'Open House'
meeting on March 11. 'An
invitation is extended to
everyone with an interest in
gardening to come out and
talk to our members and take
advantage' of the opportunity
to become involved in the
beautification of their
community,' according to a
recent press release.
Planning fees approved
User -pay planning application
fees have now .been approved
by both Huron and Seaforth,
which will cover the total cost
of the process and be split to
scale between the county and
town.
The new fee structure is:
zoning bylaw amendments,
$925; official plan
amendments, $2,400; com-
bined official plan amendments
and rezoning, $2,865, plus
$400 more if newspaper ad is
required by .town; minor
variances, $650; consents,
$600; plans of sub-
division/condominium, $3,500.
Amalgamation obstacles
Obstacles that might stand in
the way of amalgamation were
recently identified at the second
meeting of a new committee
from Exeter and the townships
of Stephen and Usborne
studying the proposal.
The four "deal breakers"
determined that might affect
successful amalgamation were:
♦ -Strticture; "we must con-
sider ward, committee, com-
missions, Chief Administrator
Officer, town manager, etc.
systems."
• Consequences of hydro
rates to agricultural areas must
be carefully studied.
• Boundary north of Dash-
wood and Exeter with Hay
Township must be
"rationalized".
• Police service areas and
rates must be carefully con-
sidered.
Council
remuneration
Seaforth Council received the
following remuneration for
December meeting attendance:
Mayor Irwin Johnston, $245;
Reeve William Bennett, $150;
Deputy -Reeve William Teall,
$195; Coun. John Ball, $150;
Coun. Brian Ferguson, $75;
Coun. Michael Hak, $240;
Coun. Heather Robinet, $150.

Holland on Thursday
afternoon for our International
Day on Holland. Thcy had a
display of Dutch dolls, delft
blue china, linen and Rita
even wore her wooden shoes.
There were pictures, snaps
and postcards. Riut and Anna
answered many questions
regarding Holland's people,
land, .money, climate and

while everyone visited
informally with Rita and
Anna.
Ken . Connelly provided
more teaching on Saturday
when he brought in his
display of antique tools and
rope -making machine. He
demonstrated rope -making
with resident Dorothy Bullock
as a willing helper. Dorothy
said she remembered years
ago helping her father make
