Eisler, other skaters
sell. out In London
A matinee was added because
last Saturday evening's show
sold .out in London -Tor Winter
Dreams on Ice, featuring
Seaforlh's Lloyd Eisler and his
professional figure skating
partner, Isabelle Brasseur,
among other prominent
Canadian skaters, at Thompson
Arena.
. The pair arc former world
champions and medalists in
two Olympics...
Eisler, 32; told The London
Free Press before Saturday's
shows that should another
referendum be held in Quebec,
he'll leave Montreal where he
has lived for the past 10 years.
"I can't live through another
onc," he said. "I like it in
Montreal...but even if • they
decide to vote again I'II be
moving."
He also told the hee Press
it's not likely he'll be skating
when he's 40.
"Forget it," he said. "Eight
years of a pro career will be
very good. 1 think I'll be weal-
thy enough to retire."
Injury ends hockey season
Walton -arca hockey player
Jason Murray got bad news last
week. He's been hobbling
around on a bum knee since
hurting it just before Christmas,
days after being released to the
junior B Stratford Cullitons by
the St. Marys Lincolns.
Last week a major ligament
(anterior cruciate) in that knee
was diagnosed as torn. It will
require surgery and his season
is over.
Murray, 18, finished as third
top scorer for Seaforth's junior
Centenaires last season, despite -
missing the last third of their
schedule .because of a badly
shattered wrist that . required
surgery after a game at Exeter.

Nevada licences limited
Scaforth Council okayed a
new Nevada ticket license for
Scaforth but asked another
applicant for more information
at last Tuesday night's meeting.

lottery -like tickets at Chris-
tine's Cafe. More information
was requested from .the
Canadian Liver Foundation
which applied to sell at Beck-

Council- passed a policy in
1993 limiting the number of
Nevada ticket outlet.; in town
t(1 12, at any given time, with
no more than two of these for
provincial and national
beneficiaries, another two for
county- beneficiaties and. the
remaining eight for local
groups, some ( such • as the
Centenaires local - junior hockey
team) who absolutely depend
on the proceeds of Ncvadas for
-basic survival.. -
Councillors wondered if the
proceeds from_ the proposed
liver foundation lottery would
be used in the immediate area
and asked for more detailed
information on the application.
The current nine Nevada
licenses in town, and their
location and classification,
according 'to a summary
provided to council at last
week's meeting, is as follows:

Strange but true...
Federal government
agriculture scientists in
Quebec have solved the
mystery of frost resistance
found in some apple trees
a natural antifreeze.
Floral - buds modify their
sap and amino acid content
before winter, lowering the
freezing point of the bud
cells, creating this natural
antifrccre.

Weight problem
Many young and middle-aged
men in. Grey and Bruce Coun-
ties are overweight and cat tic)
much fat, according to a local
health unit -study prompted by
statistics that indicate a higher
rate of heart disease in the two
counties than in the rest,of this
province.
The death rate for men with
heart disease in these counties
is four times the provincial
average.
The new study on 341 men
in Bruce and Grey, ages 22 to
.44, showed 70 per cent were at
an "unhealthy weight"' and
"they weren't willing to change
their eating and exercise habits
unless a doctor told them to,"
according to The Lucknow
Sentinel.
The health unit now plans to
target area physicians to en-
courage them to discuss dietary
fat with patients.
