Watt hot
Mike Watt of Egtnondville
was firing on all cylinders
Wednesday night at St. John,
N.B. He scored twice and was
named player of the game as
Canada's best juniors doubled
the Czech Republic 4-2 in an
exhibition, a warm-up for this
week's World Junior Hockey
Championships at Boston.
Watt, 19, was a high pick of
the Edmonton Oilers his NHL
draft year, and is now in his
sophomore season with the
Michigan State University
Spartans.
Sports
Canada opened the tour-
nament last night against the
U.S. They play again this
evening when they last Swit-
zerland at 7:10. All of
Canada's games arc televised
on TSN. The remaining games
are:
Dec. 29 - Canada vs. Finland,
7:40 p.m.
Dec. 31 - Canada vs. Uk-
raine, 5:40 p.tn.
Jan. 1 - Quarter -finals (TBA).

rated draft prospect in the
major junior Ontario Hockey
League, according to the most
recent list of draft eligible
players released last Thursday
by the National Hockey
League's central scouting
division.
Only Alexandre Volchkov,
the leading scorer for the Bar-
rie Colts whojumped Russia's
Red Army club, is rated ahead
of him.
Mclnally, Carroll Cents' stars
Veterans Kalen Cane!! and
Steve Mclnally will represent
the Seaforth Centcnaires and
the Yeck Conference at the
annual all-star game of the
Ontario Hockey Association's
Junior "D"evelopment League
at Lucan the third weekend of
next month, on Sunday Jan. 20.
Mclnally is in the thick of a
dogfight with Exeter's overage
veteran Shaync Robinson for
the Morenz Division's scoring
lead. Steady dcfenceman Car-
roll, also in his overage year,
has found a bit of a scoring '
touch this season. Going into
last weekend's action he was
tied for fifth on the team with
19 points.
The Cents hosted Mitchell
Friday •night, but this paper
went to press before results
were available.
The local juniors are in
Mitchell tonight (Wednesday)
at 8:30 before returning to the
Seaforth and District Com-
munity Centres for a weekend
doubleheader. The Cents host
North Middlesex Friday night,
also 'at 8:30 p.m., and host
Hagarsville Ncw Year's Eve
