Flying sled
spotted in area
There -have been several
sightings in Seaforth and
surrounding areas in the last
few nights of flying sleds.
Local authorities say a
Targe man dressed in a red
suit is operating the craft
with a number of flying
hoovcd animals appearing to
be pulling the sled.
Experts have no explana-
tion for this since it appears
to defy gravity.
A statement from the
man in red reads: "We're
just warming up for the Nig
night."
Two new local
cable channels
Subscribers to the
Mitchell Seaforth Cable
TV Ltd. will have noticed
two new channels on their
basic cable package
recently.
Two wee* ago, CFNIT
from Toronto was added to
channel 7 due to a licence
requirement, while CBC
Newsworld has been
moved from channel 7 to
28.
Last week, due to ever-
increasing public demand,
WUHF—Netter known as
The FOX Network—from
Rochester, N.Y., was put
on channel 14. NCN (New
Country Network), which
was on channel 14. has
been moved to channel 32.
"Demand for FOX has
recently really taken off
the last few months," said
General Manager Dan
Harmer. "It was really
interesting, because we
had few people ask for it
until recently."
The channels were added
at no additional cost on the
basic cable package.
Nevada -tickets
turned down
At last Tuesday's regular
mating, Seaforth Council
unanimously defeated a
motion on the application
from the Commercial Hotel
to sell break -open Nevada
tickets for a "psychosocial
rehabilitation program for
consumers of the mental
health system in the Water-
loo region."
Economic Development
Officer Cathy Garrick had
requested council's direction
dealing with the application.
The town established a
policy in 1993 permitting a
maximum of 12 Nevada
ticket outlets in Seaforth,"
Garrick's report states, "no
more than two of which will
be 'county agency
beneficiaries, and two
provincial agency
beneficiaries, at any one
time.
"There arc currently eight
Nevada ticket outlets in
Seaforth, one of which
benefits a provincial agency,
and one of which benefits a
county agency."
Museum popular
The Huron County
Museum, Gaol and Marine
Museum are popular.
Scaforth Reeve 11111 Ben-
ncu told last Tuesday's
council meeting that 33,581
people had visited the three
Ooderich facilities up until
the end of October.

MASS BARBERSHOP CHORUS - A capacity crowd enjoyed the Christmas music performed by a mass barbershop chorus at Northside United Church
earlier this month. Over 200 singers were on hand for the Harmony King's event which raised money for the Huron County Christmas Bureau. This fish-
eye lens photograph was taken on a tripod in the balcony of the picturesque church.

Council approves church food bank
Seaforth Council didn't
dawdle unanimously approving
the week-old request of
Scaforth churches to set up a
food bank in vacated police
quarters at Town Hall.
"We can meet their needs
without structural changes or
cost to the town," commented
Mayor Irwin Johnston after
council passed the required
motion last Tuesday night.
All the local churches of-
ficially approached council
with their well -thought-out plan
Dec. 4, which they said
reflected a timely concern of
their congregations. The local
clergy said they had a large
pool of volunteers ready to go
and wanted "to fill a hole in
this area where services don't
exist", which • they felt was
particularly "urgent" in this
time of cutbacks.

Christmas Bureau
thanks people of
Seaforth & area
Dear Editor,
With Christmas. only a few
days away we want to take this
opportunity to say "Thank you
*forth!" Once again the
people of Scaforth and sur-
rounding area have shown that
rural Ontario has a heart.
During the past two weeks
we have seen an outpouring of
generosity that the major cities
could only dream of. Our local
churches, businesses and
especially the schools, have
been so supportive.
Everyone pitched in and
made this project an over-
whelming success. The Har-
mony Kings, the youth group
from First Presbyterian Church,
the town knitters and many
other service clubs donated
both their cash, their time and
their talents.
When it was all said and
done we had enough left over
to help out Exeter, who were
desperately short this year.
Merry Christmas to all of you
and may the spirit of sharing
and caring stay with each and'
everyone of you for all of
19961
