Cents
The Centenaires laid to rest a
10 -game pointless streak
against the Law Irish • by
beating them 3-2 and climbing
past them in the standings
Friday night in Seaforth.
The Cents are once again in
second place and the victory
officially ended the first half of
their Ontario Hockey As-
sociation Junior "D"evelopment
League regular season. They
are playing .700 hockey, better
than they have in years. ,
However, the Seaforth juniors
remain well back of the
Morenz Division leading Exeter
Hawks, who are coming to call
this Friday night at 8,30 at the
Seaforth and District Com-
munity Centres.
The Hawks remain unbeaten,
seven points ahead with two
games in hand on the Cents,
although they stumbled a bit
Friday night • on home ice at
Exeter with a 4-4 draw with
North Middlesex, the only
point they have so far lost this
season.
Thamesford was scheduled to
play the Centenaires in
Seaforth Sunday night but the
game had to be postponed
because of the blizzard. Exeter
also had its Baine in Mt.

ac in second after win
Brydges Saturday night
postponed because of the storm
and bad roads.
Friday night in front of 166
fans the Cents earned their
workmanlike .win, their first
against Lucan since the first
time the two teams met in
Seaforth at the 'start of last
season, after Seaforth had upset
Lucan in four -straight games in
the 1993-94 division semi-
finals.
The 10 -game "bad karma"
which the Cents did away with
Friday, included getting swept
by the always -tough Irish in
four -straight in the first round
of last year's playoffs.
Newcomer Mark Van
Dooren's goal early in the
second period stood as the
winner. Shaun Anstea and
Dwight Gingerich also scored
for Seaforth. Mike Robbof
both for Lucan, his first
because of a crazy hop off the
boards that caught goalie Scott
Wood, who continues to play
well regardless, out of position.
The third period was
scoreless.
Van Doorcn has been playing
with the junior B Stratford
Cullitons. The defending OHA
champions returned him to
Scaforth to play midget and for
the Centenaires carlier last
week.
"Our feeling wa.: that a
younger player needs to get
more ice than he was geeing
for us," says Cullitons' coach
Denis Flanagan Jr. "I think
playing in Seaforth w ill be best
for him and he'll 1x back here
next . year."

HANGING TOUGH - Seaforth Centenaires' newcomer Brad Parsons squares off with the captain of the Lucan Irish 6 during
Friday's big battle for second place in the Morenz Division of the OHA's Junior "D"eveopment League at the arena. Parsons
has added an element of toughness to the Seaforth defence. He won the fight and Seaforlh won the game. It is the first
time the local juniors have beaten the Irish in 10 -games, a streak that stretched back to early October 1994.

Parr Line ladies beat Socials with stacked team
PARR LINE 3 SOCIALS 0
Parr Line ladies have a
stacked team. They pick up a
rookie from Barrie and a
semi -retirement rookie. It's
great to have two lines. The
rookie from Barrie was on the
move as she blasts the ball
twice into the net for two
sure goals. As for the third
goal, Norah had trouble
keeping up to daughter Tanya
on scoring goals, but a little
help came from Tracey
Eckert (thanks loads Trdecy).
Now I'm sure our retirement
rookie Jean Dow will sleep
good tonight. Our Miss Heidi
and Bonnie had great passing
for these girls to score goals!
Socialites couldn't buy a goal
as ample chances were had!
PERTH 1 WINTHROP 1
Two well -matched teams or
two great goalies, probably a
combination of both I'm sure.
Perth scores first goal by
drilling the ball into the top
comer of the net. Great goal
by Jill Wood while Mandy
Hadenko assists with great
pride. It must be those new
'polo shirts' right Mandy! (ha
ha). But look out as
Winthrop's Janice Finlayson
captures a fiery goal, assisted
by- side -kick Donna - Ans.
Great game ladies.
PARR LINE 2 ROYALS 1
Royals were first on the
scoreboard as speedster
Manny Desousa runs, shoots
and scores. Great passing
from Bob Dinsmore and Tony

Doig's comments
in defence of
reporter's quote
Comments by Ken Doig Jr.
of Seaforth are used in support
of evidence against CBS golf
analyst Ben Wright in a special
investigative golf edition of
Sports Illustrated, available
only to subscribers.
Wright previously said he
was quoted incorrectly by a
woman reporter from a
Delaware paper as saying the
LPGA was a "butch game",
that homosexuality in women's
golf was rampant and that the
game's "lesbian" image hurts
corporate sponsorship.
Doig, who says he overheard
the alleged conversation, told
the sports magazine that the
reporter's quotes were accurate.
Thc SI article describes Ken
Jr. "a respected veteran tour
caddie and part-time CBS
employee since 1977", and "the
oldest son of a well-respected
Canadian golfing family.

GRADS 0 DUMPERS 1
Great game by both teams
as scour remains zip -zip until
the last two -minute -mark of
the second half and then
overtime begins. Back and
forth but a break is in the
Dumpers' favour as Bill Dale
scores on an open net with
assistance from Jerry Wright
Grads should have won with

Riders wre getting
frustrated that they couldn't
buy a goal or get any breaks
from the refs either.
Winthrop's superb broomball
goals were scored by Greg

passing from Scott Lconhardt.
KNIGHTS2 RAIDERS 1
Raiders had plenty of
chances on scoring but only
popped in one sure goal
scored by Earl Pennington
with a quick wrist pass from
Steve Lconhardt . for
assistance. Knights take the
lead as Jim Nyenhuis and Jeff
Campbell gafflc up a single
goal each with no assistance.
