If you or someone in your
family has Fetal Alcohol
Syndrome, Alzheimer's, asth-
ma. or perhaps even autism,
you might know where to go to
for support.
At the very least, you proba-
bly know what those conditions
are.
But how about Tourette
Syndrome? Or Guillain-Barre
Syndrome?
It's possible you, or a rela-
tive, might by the only person
in a fairly large area afflicted by
any of these, or a number of
other, genetic Conditions, and
not know where to turn for
advice and help.
However, the local IODE
chapter has purchased an index
of genetic disorder support
groups, which it will donate to

Morris Tract
County Council has agreed to
accept a $285,000 offer from
the Nature Conservancy of
Canada (NCC) to purchase the
Morris Tract property.
Friends of the Morris Tract
member Marylo Graham, who
attended the Nov. 30 council to
hear the motion passed, said,
"We are awfully pleased that a
reputable organization like The
Nature' Conservancy of Canada
has come through."
She said the NCC decided to
purchase the property because it
fits their mandate to preserve
endangered natural areas.
But the money for the land
will not come from NCC cof-
fers, it will come from the
Huron County community.
The Friends of the Morris
Tract now have three months to
raise the needed money.
"Now we will have to really
get organized," said Graham.
All donations will go through
the Nature Conservancy and
will he tax deductible, but
Graham said thc fund raisers'
biggest concern is time.
"It's a real time constraint,"
she said. "I think we can proba-
bly do it. but in these days, it's
going to be tough."
CLEAN-UP
At the Nov. 7 meeting of the
Agriculture and Public Works
Committee. Marvin Smith of
the Ministry of Natural
Resources outlined the pro-
posed approach for the salvage
of timber in the Moms Tract.
The $285,000 offered by the
NCC will be reduced by the
amount gained from the logging
of the damaged trees. Previous
estimates have placed the value
of the damaged trees as high asp
$40,000.
Smith said timber for
removal will soon be marked
with yellow paint.
Marked timber will include
wind -damaged trees on the
upper, western plateau portion
of the property and those that
pose a potential hazard to users
of the two main trail systems.
Following the marking,
Smith said reputable timber
buyers will be invited to view
the salvage area to discuss log-
ging concerns on site and to
emphasize the need for careful
work.
Work must be completed by
Mar. 31 to avoid poor spring
togging conditions.
soon as possible.
The cause of the delay, says
IODE member Joan Huzar, is
simple: the book currently con-
tains addresses and phone num-
bers
umbers for the head offices of a
wide variety of support groups.
Each page also has space for
local chapters, and the LODE
wants to fill in as many of those
spaces as possible before the
book becomes available to the
public.
"We want to get a database of.
local chapters," Huzar says.
"We hope to get it to the library
in the New Year." The binder
format means the pages can be
updated as needed. This is the
second edition of the book, and
the provincial level of the LODE
has sponsored it both times

Everyone is welcome. Notice

adds. This is the second edition
of the book, which was put
together by the Canadian
Association of Genetic
Counsellors.
Huzar says she has sent let-
ters to doctors in the area ask-
ing for any information they
may have about support groups
for genetic disorders. She's also
interested in hearing from area
organizations and residents who
may know of such groups.
Huzar can be reached at 524-
7201.
Incidentally, Tourette
Syndrome is a condition affect-
ing the nerves, and the symp-
toms include bizarre behaviour
patterns such as shouting and
swearing uncontrollably; and
Guillain-Barre Syndrome is a
condition that causes the person
to eat uncontrollably.

Further
increases in
wheat payment
Further increases in
Canadian Wheat Board
(CWB) initial payments for
the 1995-96 crop year for
wheat, amber durum wheat
and for all . grades of feed
barley were announced Nov.
23 by Agriculture and Agri -
Food Minister Ralph Goodale.
Wheat prices have risen
sharply since July because
world stocks carried over
from last year are low.
Similarly, world and North
American barley prices have
continued to strengthen since
initial payments were first
established at the beginning
of the current crop year on
Aug. 1, 1995.
The initial payments for
wheat and amber durum
wheat were last adjusted on
Oct. 16. Initial payments for
feed barley were last adjusted
on Nov. 8, 1995. The federal
government has responded to
the changing msuket by
raising, once again, these
initial payments.
This latest round of
increases for wheat, amber
durum wheat and feed barley
will be effective Nov. 28,
1995. Producers who have
delivered their grain to the
CWB between Aug. 1 and
Nov. 27 will receive
adjustment payments in the
mail. The adjustment
payments will be mailed the
week of Dec. 11, 1995.
'Sales are moving strongly
in a positive direction,' Mr.
Goodale said. 'I'm pleased
current marketing
circumstances allow an
increasing amount of farmers'
ultimate returns to be
received by them at this
early stage in the crop year.'
