Hockey player Mike Watt of
Egmondville has been asked to
try -out with Canada's National
Junior Team.
The 19 -year-old sophomore
forward with the Michigan
State University Spartans says
he got a phone call last Friday
inviting hits to the six-day
training camp, which opens at
Campbellton, N.B. on Dec. 13.
If Mike makes the team,
some exhibition gatnes then the
World Junior Hockey Cham-
pionships will immediately
follow in the Boston arca for
13 days starting Boxing Day,
Dec. 26.
Canada will be gunning for a
fourth -consecutive world junior
title. Thirty-two players have
been invited to training camp,
including four players from last
year's world champs. The final
roster is expected to be an-
nounced Dec. 18.
Of those players invited to
camp, seven are from the On-
tario Hockey League, 15 are
from the Western junior league,
eight are from Quebec and two,
including Watt, are from U.S.
colleges.
Although he was kept off the
scoreboard this past weekend

Junior .'D'evelopment hockey
Cents look like Jekyll and Hyde
It was like black and white,
Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde, Har-
ris and Rae - night and day.
Saturday night Seaforth's
junior hockey Centenaires leap-
frogged back over Lucan into
second place, by roaring back
from a three -goal deficit mid-
way through the game, to nip
North Middlesex 6-5 at
Parkhill.
The night before it happened
the other way around.
The Centenaires started like a
house on fire on home ice,
against Lf ngton, built up a 3-0
lead near the end of the first
period and looked good doing
it, but then changed
complexion and played like
they needed a good nap for the
rest of the game, which they
•
ended up losing 7-6 in over-
time - the third time they have
lost in OT this season.
Nevertheless, the three out of
a possible four points on the
weekend put the Cents one
point up in the standings on the
third-place Irish 6 in the
premier Morenz Division of the
Ontario Hockey Association's
Junior "D"evelopment League
and set up a December show-
down between the old fierce
rivals, with Lucan in Seaforth
Friday night at 8:30 for what
the "oldtimer's" still call . a
"four -pointer". The Irish and
Seaforth have now both played
the same number of games.
Sunday night the Centenaires
also have a tough test on tap.
The OHA defending -champion
Weber rebuilding Redmen
Coach Bill Weber of Eg-
mondville says he's in a rebuil-
ding season at the helm of
Clinton Central Huroii Rcdmen
hockey team.
He says the team has lost 14
prayers from last year's league
finalists, and has 10 players in
either Grade 9 or 10 on this
season's squad.
The well-known area coach
says the new semester system
at Clinton high school hasn't
helped things for the Redmen
either because some potential
players wouldn't be available
for the end of the hockey
season next spring, in the
second semester.

Cyclones dumped by Dumpers
CYCLONES 0 DUMPS 8
This wasn't like the
Cyclones to not have a full
squad or be short on goal
scoring. Dumpers were keen,
as goals were scored by Bob
McKenzie, sly Ncucker, shy
Tony Van Den Heuvel, Lefty,
Junior and Pickle. Direct
passes from Tuffy Hugill and
quiet Bretsky.
WINTHROP 2 RAIDERS 3
Winthrop starts the goal
scoring as goals were scored
by Blaine Marks and Drifter
Leonhardt as he stands at the
blue line and drifts the ball
directly into the opposing net.
However these Raiders amaze
me as they pull ahead and
score the winning goal in
overtime. The heroes for
goals were Steve Mclnally,
Toby Phillips (unbelievable
shot on net) and Derck
MacDonald. Great game by
both teams.
KNIGHTS 4 ROYALS 0
It's ok Royals, you can't
win them all, there's always
next week. Keep up the
steady pace and enthusiasm.
I'm sure the Knights are
wondering ,if this is really
true that we won another
game. Goals wcrc scored by
devilment ' Campbell, spry
Chris Weemink, smoothie Jim
Nycnhuis, and crazy 'T' Bar,
Mr. Baer. Great passes by
Bill Van Nes.
SOCIALS 0 PERTH 2
Is this the real Perth ladies -
winning two games in a row.
Wow! Great goals scored by
Sharon Fell Dunsmore and
Vickie Innes. Lots of help
came from wee Kim
Finlayson, mad - Mandy
Hadenko, short stuff Liz
Rotheritseh and speedy Jill
Wood. Now, Scoialites, just
because its close to Christmas
doesn't mean you have to
slacken off and let someone
else win, but it is very kind
of you guys to share. Say
'thanks' Perth.
PARR LINE 1 WINTH 0
Winthrop ladies should
thank .their goalie for playing
so well or buy her a new
'popcorn' basket. Great
goaltending by Deb Murray.
The rest of the team also
helped to keep the score to a
very low margin. I think Parr
Line ladies were on edge as
their only goal was scored by
newcomer Heidi Who!,
assisted by speedster Bonnie
O'Reilly. Great game by both
t ams.
GRADS 2 EASY RIDERS 0
Easy Riders didn't get any
breaks or any goals. Well
maybe next week boys! The
Grads two slick goals were
scored by smoothie Jerry
Burtch and swinging Mac
O'Neil. Quick passes came
from Al and Martin Wynja
and Tony Van Den Heuvel.
Good game fellows!

Thamesford Trojans are in
town for another 8:30 game.
The Centenaires looked like
the night before and gave up
three goals in the first six
minutes or so of the second
period at Parkhill Saturday.
They trailed 5-2. Captain Jason
Dunseith got one back for
Seaforth at the 10:43 mark of
the middle period. The Cents
soon scored twice in a minute,
Steve Mclnally on a breakaway
with two seconds to go in the
second period and Shaun
Anstett at the 50- second mark
of the third, to even things up.
J.C. Kirk got what stood as
the winner, with a little more
than 10 minutes to go in the
game.

Mclnally had another goal, a
four -point game and seven -
point weekend, and Dwight
Gingerich got the other Cen-
tenaires' goal.
Friday night on home ice
against Langton it looked like
"Showtime" in the NBA for
the Cents until near the end of
the first period, as Seaforth's
offence was looking for the
fast break and playing fancy
while "the Green" built up a
seemingly -effortless 3-0 lead
by the 17:51 mark on goals by
Tim Barton, Jason Henderson
and Kirk.
Then, for whatever reason,
the Centenaires started skating
around in what seemed like a
daze for the rest of the game.
Goaltending was also an ob-
vious problem that fired the
Thunderbirds' comeback.
McInally scored twice and
Henderson another in the final
two periods.
Langton sent it into overtime
with a shorthanded goal at
14:46 of the third, and won by
coming off the boards from
behind the Seaforth net for the
deciding goal midway through
the five-minute overtime.

C4TH native Darren Crocker is
now an OHA official and
worked a junior game in town
for the first time on Friday
night. He did the lines along
with veteran local linesman
Kevin Williamson.

of the Centenaires, and his wife
Faye of Brucefield, had their
second child Thursday night:
Jordann Camochan Murray, a
younger sister for Shannen.
Both weighed in at 71b. 13.
