Seaforth's Tony Greidanus is
in the third year of a golf
scholarship at an Eric, Pennsyl-
vania college, and is now the
top-ranked golfer on that
school's NCAA Division 11
varsity squad.
He was home for the
American Thanksgiving holiday
last week and says he still
doesn't think he is playing the
game the way it should be
played, and he is capable.
Greidanus, 23, of James
Street in Seaforth won two
tournaments in a row then
finished a strong third in
another during a hot streak in
September. Also captain of the
Lakers this year, he maintained
an average score of 77 in nine
tournaments in total last year,
five above the average par of
72 for the courses. In five of
those tournaments he finished
in the top -10.
He golfs for Mercyhurst in
Erie, Penn. The school com-
petes ih the Great Lakes Con -
roves at U.S. college

Michigan and Ohio.
Greidanus fired back-to-back
73s to win the Pitt -Bradford
Golf Invitational then Mer-
cyhurst College Fall Golf Clas-
sic this torrid September. The
following week in a bigger
tournament at Slippery Rock,
Penn. his 74 was good enough
for third.
The. local athlete is still a
familiar face to golfers locally
because he's worked at the
Seaforth Golf and Country
Club for the past nine years.
He says he's not a "power
player" and characterizes his
game as: "steady, play for
pars...and the ability to
scramble."
Greidanus had the besi
average, most team medalist
honours and most first -place
tournament medalist honours
on the 12 -man varsity this year,
where he plays with a couple
of other Canadians: Mike Pat-
tison of Beaton near New-
market and Bryce Bahun of
Saskatchewan.
Last year, in his sophomore
season, he broke his thumb and
only played one tournament in
the fall, then never reached his
stride again in the spring. In
his first year at Mercyhurst he
says he "struggled", finishing
Dumpers qualify for Provincials
GRADS 2 PARR LINE 1
Grads take the lead in
overtime as quick goals were
scored by Chris Goris and
Tony Van Den Heuvel with
keen passes by Martin Wynja
and Mac O'Neil. Parr Line
scored the first goal done by
Jamie Porier assisted by
Grant Bergsma . and goal
tending by Roy Fisker. Parr
Line men put up a good light
but couldn't come back to tie
the game up in overtime.
RIDERS 1 DUMPERS 2
Dumpers were a little slow
getting started as 'ugly'
scored the first goal. Great
stick handling (up and over
into the net). This fellow
played well in front of the
opposing goaltender - as you
can see it pays off in goals.
Second goal scored by the
main 'Man' Van Den
Neucker as he is three feet
from opposing goalie and just
drills the ball past his head.
Wow! What a shot! Lots of
help came from Jerry Wright,
Steve Eckert Jr., John Cairns
and 'Huck' Harold! But, the
Riders were no slouches as
Lawrence Vink squeezes the
ball into the net with a quick
pass from speedy Jerry Zwep.
Great game• guys, you gave
them quite a run.
Congratulations Dumpers on
winning the tourney in
Palmerston and now
qualifying for the Provincials
- great work!
ROYALS 0 RAIDERS 2
I'm not sure who's turn it
was to win but the Raiders
had power and steam to spare
as goals were scored by Earl
Pennington and quick draw
Steve Leonhardt. Passes came
from speedy Derek
McDonald, Jack Holmes and
Steve Sievers. Raiders goalie
Mr. Dearing made great
saves. But, the Royals
couldn't buy a goal or bribe
the referee for a break at all.
The Royals' goalie is also a
Mr. Dearing (boy, is this
confusing). These gents are
great goaltenders. Keep up
the good work - `right Dad'
as the other Mr. Dearing
cheers from the bleachers!
WINTHROP 5 SOCIALS 4
Winthrop WINS the first
game of the season!!!
Winthrop's goalie was hot -.
only letting 4 goals blow by
her. Great goaltending Ms.
'D"A'. Winthrop's goals
were scored by swifty Susan
Arts, mean machine Janice
Finlayson and wee Deb
Murray. Keen passes by
Donna Arts, Tina Bosman,
Jacquie McNichol and one -
arm -bandit Mary Verberne -
keep the arm up Mary.
Socialites knabbed a few
goals scored by Theresa De
Corte, Marg Henderson, Barb
Elliott and Tracey Eckert.
Assistance came from
Charlene Townsend, Sandra
Hunt and Liz Coghlin. Good
game ladies!
PERTH 1 PARR LINE 4
Perth ladies score the first
goal against Parr Line ladies
as Perth's Liz Rotheritsch
blows the ball into the top
comer of the net, assisted by
Kathy Butson. Great goal
ladies. Parr Line's seive of a
goalie, Norm, pulled herself
at half-time and let someone
else try their hand at
goaltending. Parr Line's hat -
trick was achieved by smilie
Glenda Chaput as she gets up
off of her knees and Sandra
Wilson pops in the fourth
goal. Lots of help came from
Cheryl Kruse and Cathy
Innes.
KNIGHTS 2 CYCLONES 2
Knights outplayed'
themselves as goals were
scored by Jeff Jackson and
Steve Selves. These two gents
were the main team. Great
game guys! Hey! Cyclones
had no time to be taking a
rest as a couple of goals were
scord by Eddy Hessels with
awesome passing from Rob
Cornelis, Murray Smith and
Dan O'Neil Jr. Good game by
both teams.

with an average of 83, "third or
fourth on the team".
Greidanus is in the third year
of a four-year course in hotel,
restaurant, and institute
management at the liberal arts
school. The scholarship is for
half his tuition, which cost in
the vicinity of 510,500 last
year.
He says he's been golfing
since he was in Grade 6, for
about a dozen years now, and
he would like to be a club pro
somewhere when he finishes
his schooling. He admires club
pro Steve Benneu, formerly of
Seaforth, who has done well
for himself in the same field.
But before then he'd like to
shoot another round like he did
back here in Seaforth last sum-
mer, when he carded a five -
under 65 one day in July, in a
foursome with Wade Lee, Luke
McMillan and Dave McNairn.
"We were playing for a little
bit of cash," Tony says. "The
putts were dropping and...I was
in the zone."
