asked the student body to
dress up as their favorite
character from the `Beverly
Hillbillies' television show.
At lunch there will be a
contest awarding prizes to the
best individual `hillbilly' and
to the best `hillbilly' family.

The Junior Girls Basketball
team is a relatively young
team with only two returning
players. They have
consistently won games
against Central Huron and
South Huron (5-0), however
in the Huron. Championships
they lost to Madill 35-24 after
leading at the three-quarter
mark.

St. Mary's play gets good review
Steel Magnolias is an
excellent play and the acting
is very good, according to
adjudicator Kay McKie of
Guelph. It's a play with a lot
of depth and there are a lot of
good lines in it, she added.
The St. Marys Community
Players' current production at
the St. Marys Town Hall
Theatre was adjudicated on
Saturday night. Following the
performance, McKie shared
her compliments and
criticisms on the play in a
one-hour adjudication with
the cast and crew.
McKie will see about 17
plays produced by theatre
groups in the Western Ontario
Drama League. Steel
Magnolias will be compared
to the other shows and may
be honoured with awards.
In 1985, the St. Marys
Community Players'
production of There Goes The
Bride won in the categories
of best director and best
supporting actor. A couple of
years later, Mousetrap was
named best overall play.
Carol Robinson -Todd, who
appears as M'Lynn in the
play, said the adjudicator is
an unbiased, knowledgeable
observer who is familiar with
all aspects of theatre. She
provides information on what
was done well and on how
the show could be improved.
'We are to learn from her
comments. She comes in as a
teacher,' said Robinson -Todd.
Producer Ted Scaldwell, of
Stratford, was pleased with
the opening night show last
Thursday. He said the actors
gave an excellent
performance and the audience
responded well. The cast
received a standing ovation
from the opening night
crowd.
Steel Magnolias continues
Thursday, Friday and
Saturday night at 8 pm at the
St. Marys Town Hall Theatre.
Tickets are $12 at the door or
$10 in advance and are
available at Village Groomer,
27 Church St. S., St. Marys;
Big V Drug Store, 55 Downie
St., Stratford; and The Grand
Theatre; 471 Richmond St.,
London.
