Churches harvest
Four churches in the Exeter
area harvested 101 metric
tonnes of field corn last month
for the South Huron
Foodgrains Bank.
Well discovered
A family on Rattenbury
Street West in Clinton found a
16 -foot well they didn't know
they had by their garage last
week. A neighbor first noticed
the ground had sunk, and first
they though it might be a hole
dug by a dog.
It turned out to be an old
water well no one knew was
there. A check on an old decd
for the house also didn't in-
dicate a well was there.

The media course is
investigating `classified'
information: We asked, 'If
your friend told you they saw
a UFO, what would you do?'
`...I would get really excited
and want to find out about it.'
`I would tell them they
were crazy, unless they had
some proof to back up their
story. Even if they had proof,
I still don't think I'd believe
them, and 1 would
recommend a good doctor.'

Mr. Ball's history course
has been examining French -
English relations in Canada.
Susan McLachlin summarizes
her research: `Since the first
permanent French colony was
founded in 1608, and the first
English colony was founded
in 1607, the two peoples of
North America have been
plagued with the
misunderstanding of each
other.'
`Canada seems to be one of
the only countries in the
world that allows a
difference, such as language,
to get in the way of National
Unity.'
`English -French tensions in
Canada arc not a new
phenomenon. Over 100 years
ago a rebellion was occurring
between Upper and Lower
Canada or in other words -
Frcnch and English Canada.'
'Fortunately, in 1837, both
sides involved in the battle
were able to resolve their
differences and could
continue to work and live
together with a better
understanding of each other
than they had before.'
'Hopefully, now that the
referendum is over, we,

Chatham's centennial loses money
Chatham's three-day centen-
nial party this past August
didn't come off quite as
planned. It cost about $60,000
to stage and was supposed to
be self-supporting, but only
brought in half that revenue
because the weather that
weekend was extremely hot
and humid. Chatham has
decided to absorb the $30,000
shortfall.
