Remembrance Day - A time to reflect AWARD RECIPIENTS - Dozens of Seaforth veterans were presented with certificates on behalf of the Town of Seaforth by Mayor Irwin Johnston at the Veterans' Banquet on Saturday at Legion Branch 156. (photo submitted) Successful Veterans' Banquet held Last Saturday night, a very successful Veterans' Banquet was held at Branch 156. President John Lansink openbd the ceremonies and Sgt. -at -Arms Errol Skillender and the Colour party marched on the Colours. Tho head table guests were introduced by 1st Vice President Linda Gridzak. They included Brig. General Gary S. Thomson and Dr. Janice Thomson, Deputy District C Commander Gordon Moore and Mrs. Moore, Ladies Auxiliary Zone CI Commander Eva Brown and Jim Brown, Acting Zone CI Sgt. -at -Arms, Zone Cl Commander June Pyette and Ed Pyette, President John Lansink Br. 156, President Ladies Auxiliary Br. 156 Pat Schellenberger and Steve Schellenberger, Mayor Irwin Johnston and Doreen Johnston. Head table guests were piped in by piper John Jewitt. Guest speaker General Thomson, Deputy Commander, Land Forces, Seaforth Legion by Barbara Scott Central Area (Army in Ontario) spoke on `Peace keeping in the world' and with the help of his Aide-de- Campe, Capt. Martin Howard, presented slides taken on his tour of duty in Bosnia and Rwanda. This was very interesting and informative and gave those present a better understanding of what the peace keepers arc going through in these countries. Gen. Thomson was presented with a gift on behalf of Branch 156 and Dr. Thomson was presented with flowers. Deputy District C Commander Moore brought greetings from the District as did Deputy Zone Commander Pyette from the Zone Cl. Zone Commander L.A. Eva Brown. Ladies Auxiliary President Pat Schellenberger spoke on behalf of the Ladies Auxiliary and presented President Lansink with a cheque for $3,000 which along with the new memorial sign also given this year, makes a total of $8,000 given to the Branch this year. The president thanked the ladies for their hard work, co- operation and support of the Branch. Comrade Jim Watson thanked the ladies for the delicious dinner they prepared and served, and also the gentlemen who helped. Mayor Irwin Johnston brought greetings from the Town of Seaforth and along with President Lansink and Deputy District Commander Moore, presented certificates on behalf of the town to the veterans present. If you were not in attendance at the dinner and are eligible for one of these certificates, please come to the Branch soon and you will receive yours. • After the closing ceremonies, entertainment downstairs by Kathy Smith was enjoyed by everyone. The Sunday Church Parade was held to Northside United Church with a very good number taking part. After a light lunch served by the Ladies Auxiliary, the Poppy Drive was held. President Lansink and Poppy Chairman Errol Skillender would like to thank everyone for turning out. The Army Cadets also helped with the event. Don't forget the parade to the Cenotaph on Saturday, Nov. 11. The parade leaves the Branch at 10:40 am. Anyone presenting a wreath, please pick them up prior to this time. After returning to the Branch, there will be the usual social time and later a pot -luck supper. Please plan ahead and attend this supper. 'They shall not grow old as we that are left grow old. Age shall not weary them nor the years condemn. At the going down of the sun and in the morning we will remember them.'
