DEATHS BENJAMINS, Jan: Mr. Jan Benjamins of 162 Quebec St., Mitchell passed away at the Mitchell Nursing Home on Tuesday, October 24, 1995 in his 94th year. Born in Hoogeveen, Holland on September 14, 1902, he was a son of the late Jan Benjamins and the former Jantje Everts. On September 18, 1926 he married the former Geesje Van der Sleen. The couple came to Canada from Holland in 1952 and resided in Sebringville and later in Seaforth. The couple farmed in Ellice Township until their retirement to Mitchell in 1972. He was a member of Bethel Free Reformed Church at Munro and had served as an elder of the church. He was a member of the Men's Society of the Church. Surviving besides his wife are five daughters Jantje Schepers and her husband Henk, Aaltje Vos, all of Holland, Jantina Zomer of Beachville, Joan Lubbers and her husband Bert of Seaforth and Alice Lubbers of Wallaceburg, one son Gerrit Benjamins of Pembroke, a daughter-in-law Grace Benjamins of Mitchell, forty grandchildren and ninety-three great grandchildren. Predeceased by two sons Jan Benjamins (1959) and Evert Benjamins (1971), a granddaughter (1951), a grandson (1993), three sons-in-law Jan Vos, Rex Zomer and Peter Lubbers, one sister Aaltje and by two brothers Evert and Siemen. Friends were received at the Lockhart Funeral Home, 109 Montreal St. Mitchell on Thursday 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. and on Friday 2-5 p.m. The funeral service was held at Bethel Free Reformed Church at Munro on Saturday at 11.00 a.m. with Rev. H. Bergsma officiating. Pallbearers were George Lubbers, Jack Lubbers, John Lubbers, Gerald Lubbers, Ernest Houthuizen and Anthony Tamminga. Deb Strathdee says she was gone from her house for an hour and when she got back about 100 pumpkins were gone, all except for three or four small ones. The Fullarton Girl Guides had planned to sell the pumpkins as a fundraiser for summer camp.
