Western Days dance held at manor Marie Flynn and 'The Huron Strings' were our featured entertainment for our 'Western Days' gala dance. Our 'barn -beam' decorated living room, complete with binder twine streamers was the scene for a good old- fashioned country hoe-down. All residents sportedcowboy hats for the event. Decorating our walls was the beautiful artwork of the Gr. 4/5 and 07 students from St. James School. Special thanks to their teachers, Gloria Smith and Gwen Hugill, for their involvement in this drawing and colouring contest. Our residents are having a difficult time picking a winner as all the Seaforth Manor Nursing Home entries are so beautiful. Everyone enjoyed a 'Trip to the Country Fair' video which continued our 'Western Week' theme. Our 'Fall Colour Tour' was a great success as residents boarded the bus for a tour through Auburn, Benmiller and Goderich to see the fall leaves. It was a perfect autumn day for an outing! A superb entertainment show held at Clinton Town Hall was enjoyed by all who attended. The Huron County Playhouse 'Musical Revue' provided the musical show and it was excellent! October has been a very busy month as residents also enjoyed a trip out to the Seaforth Fall Fair! Musical entertainment by Carol Carter, Marion Rose and Bill Gibson was also enjoyed during October. Residents and staff of Seaforth Manor are pleased to announce that Rev. Cheryl Ann has accepted the position of chaplain at the Manor. Everyone is looking forward to the hours she will be spending at the Manor and would like to wish her a very warm welcome! Palliative care program explained Kippen East Women's Institute held their October meeting at the home of Grace Eyre with Hilda Payne as co - hostess. Grace Drummond, president, opened the meeting with a poem about autumn. Deanna Brock explained the Palliative Care Volunteer Program. She outlined the reasons for palliative care. The volunteers have a two- month training course. To 'palliate' means to case the symptoms of an illness when the illness itself cannot be cured. Deanna also showed an informative video. The roll call was answered by telling what to take to a shut-in. It was decided the group would purchase a W.I. 100th Anniversary History Book. Ruby Tricbncr gave a reading and a poem. Helen MacLean thanked all those taking part. The hostesses served lunch, a Thanksgiving treat, provided by Thea Wisch and Rena Caldwell. The next meeting will be the Historical Meeting with Shirley Mousscau speaking about Hay Township's 150th special events. Hensall Legion will be holding their Annual Poppy Drive on Nov. 2. Legion and Auxiliary' mgmbers assisted by cadets will be canvassing door to door starting at 6 pm. Sunday, Nov. 5, the annual Remembrance Day Service Hensall by Liz Sangster 262-2715 will be held at Carmel Presbyterian Church. Legion. members are to meet at the Legion at 9:15 am for the church parade. Saturday, Nov. 11, Hensall Legion will hold their regular Remembrance pay Banquet at the Hensall Community Centre. World War II vet 'Jake' Cornish will be the guest speaker. Tickets are available from Legion members. Fifty-year medals and service pins will be awarded at the dinner. Tickets are now available from Legion members for the 300 Club Draw. There will be three draws per month for one year. First draw December 15. The Legion Ladies Auxiliary are again having a money doll draw (a 'Jessie' Doll with $50.00, 1st prize). Tickets are available from all Auxiliary members. Friday evening, Oct. 27, several members and friends of the Huron County Historical Society attended the dinner meeting held annually at Bruceficld United Church, and catered by the church ladies. Mary Moffatt was the pianist for the evening. Favours at the head table were miniature sacks of Hensall White Beans. The guest speaker, Steve Mayers, spoke on the salt industry in Huron and asked that anyone with any history on salt in Huron get in touch with him at the Huron County Museum. At Hensall United Church, Reverend Henry's message was 'The Lord's Prayer'. 'Prayer' was the children's story. Belva Fuss was the organist. Helen MacLean was the greeter. Dennis Martin and Ray Jacobe were the ushers. On Nov. 6, The Friendship Circle will pack a bale of used clothing. A pot -luck lunch will follow. The Afternoon Ladies meet on Nov. 2. There will be no service on Nov. 5 due to the Remembrance Day service at Carmel Presbyterian Church. The Official Board meets Nov. 15. Junior choir practice will be Thursday after school. Senior choir practice will be Friday at 7:30 pm. The 109th Anniversary will be observed on Nov. 19 at 10 am. The Hensall Minor Hockey 7th Annual Craft and Bake Sale will be held at the Hensall Community Centre on Saturday, Nov. 4 from 10 am to 4 pm. Admission is one dollar. Harry Smith has returned home from his stay at Goderich Hospital. Tree lighting Dec.1 Tree lighting is taking place in Seaforth in preparation for the Christmas season on Friday December 1. Public Works Superintendent John Forrest is fashioning a banner expressing season's greetings using multi -coloured lights. It will be strung across Main Street from Town Hall to Sills' store. Town Hall itself will be decorated, and Forrest is also supervising the creation of a 20 -ft pole with 12 -ft base which will decorated with lights, for the corner of Main and Market Streets.
