HomeMy WebLinkAboutThe Huron Expositor, 1995-10-25, Page 7Local girl wins Huron - Perth race for Seaforth A half -minute is a huge lead in cross-country. But that's about how far Sarah McLellan of RR 1 Wal- ton finished in front of second - place Michelle Finkbeiner of Exeter South Huron to win the midget girls' individual title for Seaforth District High School at the Huron -Perth Conference championships last Tuesday at Wingham. Seaforth and area produced two champs. Jason Henderson of RR 1 Seaforth, running for the St. Michael Warriors of Stratford, also won his second -straight senior boys' title. Both qualified for tomor- row's (Thursday) WOSSA championships at Springwater Conservation Area near Ayl- mer. McLellan, 14, runs like a tiny fleeting wisp, but her SDHS SC coach David Onn describes her as a "natural". This is her first year of high school and she says tomor- row's race will certainly be the biggest run of her young career. She hasn't just burst on the scene out of nowhere. She says she did well running for Seaforth Public School, win- ning the area elementary schools chalnpionship every year from Grade 4 to Grade 8. Last Tuesday's race in cold, windy and wet conditions was about two metric miles, about 3,000 metres. Henderson, 18, is an ac- complished veteran runner in both track and cross-country. He helped the Warriors capture the overall boy's team title at last week's conference cham- pionships.
