McCLURE GETS LIFETIME MEMBERSHIP - Joyce McClure of McKillop Township was presented with a plaque and
honorary lifetime membership at a Western Ontario Athletic Association executive meeting at Wingham last Thursday night.
Here she stands with the only other living lifetime member of the WOAA, Hugh Hodges of Clinton. A painting of Alfred
Lockridge,now deceased, is on the wall behind to the left. He was secretary -manager of the organization from 1942-68 and
also previously received a lifetime membership. The painting on the right is of David Neilson, WOAA secretary -manager
from 1978-88.
Broomball season now underway

The Grads wasted no time
getting on the score board as
Al Wynja gathered up two
goals and singles went to
Steve Wynja and Craig
Smith. Neat passing by Tony
VanDen Heuvel, Mac
O'Neill, Raymond Ruston,
and Martin Wynja. The
Royals had trouble following
the bouncing ball!
Easy Riders 6 Rustlers 0
Riders' hat trick scorers
were `Mr. Butson' and Mr.
Vink with a little help from
Terry Morey and Kurt
Lindemann and. Jeff Allen.
Wow! Rustlers your `line'
changcs were far and few
between - maybe next week
you'll get a break!
Parr Line 4 Raiders 1'
Parr Line men came out
with a full team. Single goals
go out to Ed Salverda, Steve
Gibbings, Dennis Dolmage
and Grant Bergsma with
assistance from Grand
Greidanus and Darrel Lavis.
Raiders took advantage of an
open net as Adrian Brashes
drills the ball into the net
unassisted.
Winthrop 1 Cyclones 2
Our 'new' team Cyclones
pulled ahead as Rob Comezis
captured two dazzling goals.
Help came from Adam
O'Neill, Mike Dooreleyers
and Brian Ropp. Winthrop's
only goal was scored by Jerry
Bremner with a little
assistance from Scott
Lconhardt and Doug
Campbell.
Winthrop 1 Perth 0
Winthrop's only goal was
scored by speedy. Janice
Finlayson with direct passing
from Deb Murray and Donna
Arts. Perth ladieshad lots of
players but came up short on
goals!
Socialites 0 Parr Line 1
Parr Line's wiry Bev Shea
breaks down centre ice and
drilled the ball directly into
the net with a little assistance
from Sandra Wilson and
Cathy Innes. .The Socialites
put up a great defensive play!
Dumpers 7 Knights 0
The Dumpers `Lefty' (Gary
Wright) nabbed up a hat trick
of goals, with singles by Bob
McKenzie, Steve Eckert Jr.,
John Cairns, and Bill Dale.
Keen passes were made by
Gary Dill, Brett Finlayson,
Harold Hugill. The Knights
goalie played superb but
(Chico) Ron Monden could
only stop so many, his fellow
teammates were going in
Cornish named Coops' MVP
Four-year veteran Bob Cor-
nish of Exeter was named the
most valuable player on this
year's edition of Scaforth
Coops at the South Huron
Fastball League's banquet at
Seaforth Branch 156 of the
Royal Canadian Legion Satur-
day night. He plays center
field.
Papple at helm
Kendra Papple of Eg-
mondville is now the swim-
ming coach of the Huron
Hurricanes. They opened
their season with an intra -
squad meet in their home
pool at the Vanastra
Recreation Center on the
weekend.
Amber and Kristen
Halfpenny from Seaforth are
members of the team, which
also includes swimmers
from Clinton, Wingham,
Londesborough, Godcrich,
Hensail, Zurich and Exeter.
The Hurricanes are af-
filiated with Swim .Ontario
and the Aqua Seven Y
League. They travel to New
Hamburg for their first full
meet this Saturday.

Coops were eliminated by the
Lieury Red Sox in a best -of -
three series after getting a bye
in the first round of the
playoffs. They lost the first
game 3-2, won the second 6-2
but then were blanked in the
rubber game 4-0.

Cross country teams from St.
James School in Seaforth had
two individual winners and
three first -place teams at the
Huron -Perth Separate School
championships at Benmiller
last Thursday.
Danny Sharpe was fastest in
the boys' 9 -and -10 race, and
Kim Devereaux crossed the
line first in the girls' 13 -and -
over event. Bradley Henderson
got lost leading the pack but
still finished second in the
boys' 8 -and -under race.
St. James has some quick
young ladies. The school took
top team honours in girls' 9 -
speedsters
and -10, 11 -and -12, and 13 -and -
ver races.
