in Toronto on Wednesday,

After an examination by the
Chicf Coroner of Ontario,
Borden said it was determined
there was no trauma (injuries)
to the body and the cause of
death was drowning.
"'It is believed Mr. Smith was
by himself," said Borden, who
explained that police are now,
"working on eliminating the
possibility of foul play."
Borden said the possibility of
foul play was initially consid-
ered stronger, given the length
of time Smith had been miss-

Carolyn Wilson, of Seaforth,
who has accompanied students
from St. Michael three of the
four years the program has
been running.
"I was going to go (to a
Third World country) in the
Fall to volunteer. So now I'm
going with the school. We
don't realize how fortunate we
are," said DeJong.
There is a reason behind the
Third World destination of the
Dominican Republic. Seaforth
native Sister Ann Nolan has
been doing missionary work in
the country for years in the
town of Consuetto. She pro-
vides an instant connection and
local network for the students.
"She started up an elementary
school. They had nothing
before. She gets things going.
Now they have a high school,
nursing home, retirement home
and clinic," said Sills.
"She's a celebrity down
there."

tration of police manpower and
resources early last week.
"However, things change,"
said Borden, adding that there
were "no strong findings," to
support speculation of foul
play, "after we had the experts
look into it."
Smith, who was separated
from his wife and lived alone,
had been missing since May 2,
1994.
Previous air searches of
Huron County, concentrating
specifically on bodies of water
had been unsuccessful in fihd-
ing any trace of Smith's vehi-
cle. The pond in which it was
found was described by
Borden as "murky."
