A cool moming was followed by a warm afternoon and huge crowds. Walton students take part in Brussels Fair Walton Public School was well -represented at the Brussels Parade and fair on Wednesday. Upon the school float rested a large flock of kindergarten and grade one chicks (they wore chicken beaks) and following on foot was a whole crew of hard-working farmers (well they were dressed the part anyway). The children this past week have also gone into training for the upcoming cross-country run which will be held Oct. 18. The grade ones had a visitor this week. Andrea and Nikki VanderVeen brought Bonsai the dragonfly to school. The class studied and observed the dragonfly and wrote a story about the critter. They took pictures of it and will be making a book about dragonflies. Laura Bowers brought in a Leopard frog . to show her kindergarten classmates. The class have also been busy learning all about apples. They Walton by Patty Banks 887-6860 made apple prints and paper apples and will be working on this unit for a while yet. The Walton commuhity extends its deepest sympathies to the Craig family in the passing of Helen's mother, Sarah Elliott. Howard and Audrey Hackwell and Bill and Marie Coutts enjoyed a Sunday drive down to West Lorne where they took in all the sights at Swains Greenhouse. The 3 1/2 acres of some of the most beautiful flowers and exotic plants were all enclosed. There was a ranch there as well with Texas Longhorns and thoroughbred horses to see. The travellers said that it was well worth the trip. If anyone wants to know a shortcut home from there don't ask Howard because he didn't find it. Minister speaks about the 'thankful heart' in Hensall At Carmel Presbyterian Church this past Sunday, Rev. Dan Roushoume chose for his message 'The Thankful Heart'. Joyce Pepper was organist for the service. Rev. Dan had a special song and story for the children, which was enjoyed by everyone. Rev. Henry Annen conducted the service at Hensall United Church, this past Sunday. Rev. Annen's message was 'What's the World Coming To Anyway'. The Children's Hymn was 'The Wise May Bring . Their Learning'. The Children's Story was 'God Needs Us'. The greeters were Jean and Ryan Jacobe. The ushers were Daryl Preszcator and Randy Parker. Communion at Hensall United Church will take place Oct. 1, at 10 a.m. Oct. 1 will also be the second offering for Hensall by Liz Sangster 262-2715 ` Community Outreach. Bible Study will be Tuesdays, 1:30- 3 p.m., beginning October 17th, everyone welcome. Boxes have been placed at the doors of the church for donation of canned goods for Friendship House. To help with the Junior Congregation contact Evelyn Elder (263-2620). Get well wishes are extended to Harry Smith, who recently returned home from Goderich Hospital. The sympathy of the community is extended to the families of the late George Beer and the late Mabel Parke. Surprise farewell held for woman leaving St.Columban A surprise farewell get- together for Hazel Dorsey was held on Friday evening at the home cf Tom, Joanne, Lisa and Danielle Melady prior to her leaving this area to reside in Mitchell. About 25 neighbours of Hazel's, and her daughter Judy and husband Ken, enjoyed several games of progressive euchre. Prizes for the most games went to Anne Kelly arid Doug Racho and the low prize winners were Mary Helen Van Loon and Jim Krauskopf. Following this, Hazel was presented with a framed decorator plate. Much visiting and memories wee shared while everyone enjoyed Iwtch. Hazel will be missed in this community and we wish her many happy years in her new apartment in Mitchell. JSt. Columban us by Cecilia Ryan .345 -"NPS U Frances Melady spent a week recently visiting with her daughter Jeanne, husband Jim Fisk and grandchildren, Jesse, Rebecca and Sarah in Nanaimo, Vancouver. Sympathy of the community is extended to the family of Emmett Malone, who died on Saturday at Seaforth Community Hospital. Sympathy also to his nieces and nephews. Mass of the Christian Burial was held on Monday at St. James Roman Catholic Church, Seaforth. Burial was in the St. Columban Cemetery. Household items stolen from garage in Morris Township Sometime between August 22 and August 25 unknown persons entered a garage at Concession 6, Morris Township. A chain saw, whipper snipper, lawn mower and hquor were stolen THEFT OF SPEAKERS A break and enter occurred on August 26 at Concession 5, Grey Township. The thieves removed two stereo speakers from the residence. The make of the speakers was 'Tandy' and are black in colour. They are approximately 4' x 2'.
