Instead, guest speaker Gail Ure gave a moving and personal account of the import- ance of health care volunteers. The Long Term Care Man- ager was speaking to more than 175 delegates of the Region Two Spring Conference of the Hospital Auxiliaries' Associ- ation of Ontario. The event was hosted by the Seaforth Hospital Auxiliary. Ure told how her mother had been seriously ill and needed surgery and how her father had died recently. She told the crowd at Seaforth District Community Centres that volun- teers such as the Hospital Aux- iliary had .been very important to her parents and herself dur- ing the difficult time. President Margaret M. Lee welcomed eveyone back after the summer holiday and the Auxiliary Prayer was recited in unison. President Margaret M. Lee congratulated Lisa Wynja of R.R. 4 Seaforth on winning the Seaforth Hospital Auxiliary Bursary. She was presented with the bursary by Margaret M. Lee. Lisa has been accepted into the 3 -year Nursing program at Conestoga College in Kitchener. This is the first time the Seaforth Hospital Auxiliary has opened up the bursary to students in the Seaforth Community Hospital Area. This means students attending the school of their choice are now eligible to apply for the bursary. This is a S500 bursary for students pursuing a health-related field at an approved college o - university. ' Minutes of the June meeting were read and approved. Final plans were discussed for the Christmas Bazaar on. Nov. 4 at the Seaforth Community Hospital. Suan Dick will chair the Tree of Lights program on Nov. 19. President Margaret M. Lee read the correspondence and a letter from CEO Mr. Bill Thibert regarding the items of equipment that - could be purchased by the Auxiliary for the Hospital. The OHAA Convention will be held at Toronto's Royal York and Convention Centre at the beginning of November. Seaforth is hosting the Region 2 Conference on Sept. 25, 1995. In rural areas, said Ure, "it's impossible not to have trans- portation to get them to the services they need." When discussing the import- ance of home care Ure recalled that Betty Cardno of Seaforth had been influential in support- ing care in the home.
