in the Community' sounded a
little dry. Instead, guest speaker
Gail Ure gave a moving and
personal account of the import-
ance of health care volunteers.
The Long Term Care Man-
ager was speaking to more than
175 delegates of the Region
Two Spring Conference of the
Hospital Auxiliaries' Associ-
ation of Ontario. The event was
hosted by the Seaforth Hospital
Auxiliary.
Ure told how her mother had
been seriously ill and needed
surgery and how her father had
died recently. She told the
crowd at Seaforth District
Community Centres that volun-
teers such as the Hospital Aux-
iliary had .been very important
to her parents and herself dur-
ing the difficult time.
"What you do is so critical,
making it. possible for people
to go on:"
As well as the moving
account, Ure answered some

An issue of profound local
importance was transportation
for seniors.
In rural areas, said Ure, "it's
impossible not to have trans-
portation to get them to the
services they need."
When discussing the import-
ance of home care Ure recalled
that Betty Cardno of Seaforth
had been influential in support-
ing care in the home.
