There is an old plow now sitting on the fence that
surrounds the Seaforth fairgrounds, by the new Agricul-
tural Building.
The antique, horse-drawn walking plow has seen some
furrows in its day and is about as old as Confederation.
It has wooden grips and steel handles, and was hand -
forged in an Egmondville shop circa 1867 by John Gray.
He moved to this arca from nearby Rogerville in 1860.
fairgrounds site
The same plow first saw action on display at a
plowing match in Hurpurhey in 1864, about the time of
the Fathers of Confederation were politically forging the
Charlottetown Accord, which soon led to British North
American Union.
The plow is now perched on the fence to be displayed
in perpetuity, a donation to the Seaforth Agricultural
Society from the collection of Harold Coleman of John
Street, a local historical plow enthusiast.
