SWEET SWINGS - Chris Marion (left) and Dave Hiltz of the Seaforth Golf and Country Club
display the form that earned them a berth in next month's Canadian Junior Mens' Goff
Championships at St. John, N.B. after making the cut at last week's 72 -hole provincial
championships at Listowel.
Golfers qualify for nationals
Two juniors from the
Seaforth Golf and Country
Club made the cut in the top
third of the field at last week's
provincials and qualified for
next month's Canadian Junior
Mens' Golf. Championships at
St. John, N.B.
Seaforth's Chris Marion, 17,
finished "about 30th" with a
72 -hole total of 311 at last
week's three-day provincial
eventt Listowel. Hiltz, 18,
from • Clinton finished three
strokes better at 308, 20 strokes
behind par and another four
back of the provincial champ
from Oshawa. He says he
finished about 25th.
"The course was playing
tough," they say.
Hiltz and Marion finished
one-two on top of the pack at
the regional qualifying tour-
nament at New Dundee several
weeks ago but found the going
.rougher last week at the On-
tario Championships, par-
ticularly after the 150 -player
field was 'whittled down to 45
on the hot and windy 36 -hole
final day last Thursday. Play
was delayed because of the
weather.
Marion was four strokes over
par at 148 after two rounds of
18 holes each entering that
final day. Hiltz stood at 149.
Chris says Dave's game is
strongest "off the tee" and
Dave says "the short game" is
Chris' strong point.
Hiltz adds qualifying for the
national final is probably his
biggest accomplishment in golf
up until now. He doesn't know
how he is *going to get there
yet but he will make it to next
month's event in New
Brunswick, August 8 through
12. Marion doesn't figure he'll
be able to make the journey.
LATE NIGHT SWIM - The lifeguards at the Lions pool in Seaforth were swimming to raise
money for equipment for pool programs late Monday night as part of their Swim-a-thon. Don
Sills and Tracy Janmaat were among those taking part.

Ontario Ladies Junior Championship at the Seaforth Golf
and Country Club last week.
New champ survives scare
A 15 -year-old golfer from
Ancaster near Hamilton sur-
vived a penalty stroke on the
final hole to nudge the defen-
ding champion by a single
stoke and win the Ontario
Ladies Junior Championship at
the Seaforth Golf and Country

Heron Point Club, shot a 54
hole score of 218 to dethrone
Andrea Lavelle of London's

The winner finished five over
par. She was three stokes up on
Lavelle until the 18th hole on
the fmal day of play, where she
had to take a drop after her
second shot went behind a tree.
Both leaders were deadlocked
well in front of the field after
opening rounds on Tuesday and
`Wednesda
Hyun-Joo Park finished seven
strokes back in third place.
Those three golfers plus
Theresa McDermott of Cherry
Downs near Pickering, who
fin -,,ed fourth this year but
third in the provincial final in
1994, earned a berth on On-
tario's inter -provincial team.
