Golfers qualify for nationals Two juniors from the Seaforth Golf and Country Club made the cut in the top third of the field at last week's provincials and qualified for next month's Canadian Junior Mens' Golf. Championships at St. John, N.B. Seaforth's Chris Marion, 17, finished "about 30th" with a 72 -hole total of 311 at last week's three-day provincial eventt Listowel. Hiltz, 18, from • Clinton finished three strokes better at 308, 20 strokes behind par and another four back of the provincial champ from Oshawa. He says he finished about 25th. "The course was playing tough," they say. Hiltz and Marion finished one-two on top of the pack at the regional qualifying tour- nament at New Dundee several weeks ago but found the going .rougher last week at the On- tario Championships, par- ticularly after the 150 -player field was 'whittled down to 45 on the hot and windy 36 -hole final day last Thursday. Play was delayed because of the weather. Marion was four strokes over par at 148 after two rounds of 18 holes each entering that final day. Hiltz stood at 149. Chris says Dave's game is strongest "off the tee" and Dave says "the short game" is Chris' strong point. Hiltz adds qualifying for the national final is probably his biggest accomplishment in golf up until now. He doesn't know how he is *going to get there yet but he will make it to next month's event in New Brunswick, August 8 through 12. Marion doesn't figure he'll be able to make the journey.
