Canada Day was another

participated in this year's
Canada Day Celebrations.
Record numbers showed up
at the breakfast, heritage.walk
and entertainment in-tloc park.

the Recreation Committee for

the descendants of Dora and
William Somerville was held at
Seaforth Lion's. Park on
Sunday, July 9.
There were 70 people in
attendance. Everyone enjoyed
the sports events which were
co-ordinated by Ray McNichol
and Dianne Miller.

York University, Paul Horan, Ph.
D., M.A., B. Mus., son of the late
Mary and Fergus Horan of Dublin,
Ontario, received the degree of
Doctor of Philosophy in Music
Education. Dr. Horan serves as
Academic . Advisor, Adjunct
Professor of Music Theory, and
Coordinator for Undergraduate
Studies at the Department of
Music and Performing Arts
Professions, School and Education
-at New York University. •His doc-
toral dissertation describing the
status of American opera in higher
education will be published in the
fall of 1995. -Dr. Horan is the Vice -
President of the NYU chapter of Pi
,K1Ppa Lambda and a member of
Phi Delta Kappa. His formative
years were spent in Dublin,
Ontario and he graduated from
the Faculty of Music at the
University of Western Ontario,
Seaforth District High School,
Dublin Continuation School; and
S.S.118 McKillop elementary
school. Dr. Horan wishes to
acknowledge the unflagging sup-
port of his immediate family and
the encouragement of his extended
family in Toronto, Stratford,
Mitchell, Dublin; and Seaforth,
Ontario. '
