VALEDICTORY
ADDRESS,
ST. PATRICK'S
SCHOOL
BY JULIE O'ROURKE
Honoured guests, Reverend
pastors, Pats, teachers and
classmates.
We have aro, ,,(1 We have

in ow lives. After aim years at
St. Patrick's and St. Culumban
schools we are about to see
changes in our lives that will
affect us forever. The last nine
years have been stepping
stones to our future. Our
teachers have taught us,
encouraged us and prepared us
for high school both mentally
and spiritually. It is now up to
us as individuals to continue
shaping our lives.
The next four years will
prepare us for our prospective
careers, but most importantly,
they will prepare us for life.
The world is an ever-changing
place and education is our
secret to a quality future.
The last nine years will
always be important to us. We
have developed friendships that
will last forever. As a class we
have shared many experiences.
Many of these experiences will
stay with us forever, especially
our Grad trip and, of course,
all those trips to Wawanosh.
We have enjoyed travelling to
and competing against other
schools in sports and academic
competitions. And drama -

VALEDICTORIAN
ADDRESS
BY DECKY CORBE'I'T

SCHOOL
Good evening teachers,
parents, fellow classmates and
all other family members. I'm
extremely honoured to be
speaking on behalf of the
graduating class of 1995. Over
the last nine years we have had
the chance to care, share, learn
and grow together.
Starting away back in
kindergarten we learned how to
spell, count, read, get to the
washroom quick and most of
all how to have fun. One part
of kindergarten I'm sure we all
remember is afternoon nap

time. Oh! How dreadful it was
when we were five years old.
Who needs a nap when you get
to be that old? Now we're
wishing nap time could have
been part of the grade eight
curriculum hmmmm...for some
maybe it
We've ome quite a long
way from our primary school
years and learned a lot along
the way. When I say "learn
I'm not just talking of school
subjects, but of how to work
together as a team, cooperate,
include others and respect each
other. It's quite a privilege to
go to a small town school
because everybody knows you
and you know everyone else.
Mind you, there have been

several changes over the years.
with different teachers,
' principals, and students. Each
new change has been
accompanied by positive
experiences as we have gouen
to know each new individual.
We've shared many friendships
which will be cherished and
remembered in the future.
We've had several wonderful
opportunities this year such as
the grade eight trip to Quebec.
We had a lot of fun in our
preparations for the trip such as
our Famous Canadians in
Conflict unit, We also fund
raised by building wooden
reindeer and selling cheese and
meat pies. Our trip was a great
success overall especially after

'ditching' the junk food. We
leamed that on a trip
representing your school, you
need to .be both mature and
responsible in your actions.
Another important lesson about
keeping track of valuable
possessions such as VISA card
or glasses was taught to us by
Mr. Mount and Sam, thanks
guys! Hopefully classes to
come will have the same
chance to go to a place like
Quebec.
All in all the staff here has
helped us over the years and
we owe them a great deal. The
staff has worked so hard in
preparing us for High School,
which we know will be a little
bit easier because of that help.

Another important group of
people who deserve thanks and
recognition are most definitely
our parents. Sure we may not
always get along with them but
they have been the ones who
have always supported us, no
matter what!
I know that we will miss
being with our friends all of
the time. We have also come to
know the. teachers and other
staff members who we will
also miss greatly. The times
and experiences we have
shared are, and will be
memorable. It will be quite an
adjustment from public school
to high school but as we leave
we are taking nine years of
wonderful memories that will
always be a part of us.

what about the play The Prince
and the Pauper? That was a
great experience for all of us.
Who knows? Maybe some day
Mrs. McCotter will see one of
her students on Broadway. If
she does, we sure hope she'll
make it to the show on time.
School hasn't been all
fun...we have shared some
tough times but encouragement
from each other has pulled us
through. Sadly, as we approach
this crossroad some of us are
proceeding in different direc-
tions to pursue our high school
education. Yes, we will meet
new people and have new
experiences but we also have
shared nine years together and
we will always remember each
other in a special way.
We have come a long way
since kindergarten. Our class is
unique. We were the last kin-
dergarten class to be taught at
St. Patrick's across the road in
the Board Office and we are
the last grade eight class to
graduate from St. Patrick's. It
is true, they leave the best to
last.
On behalf of our class, I
must take this opportunity to
thank our parents, teachers,
pastors and staff at St.
Patrick's school who have
helped us with our education
thus far. Your help has been
appreciated. I would also like
to thank Mrs. McCotter whose
ambitions went far beyond ours
much of the time. She has
donated much of her spare time
to us but most importantly she
has treated us as important
individuals. Thank you, Mrs.
McCotter.
