.Hospital honours- past Chairs

Sandra Smithers has been
named new Chair of the
Seaforth Community Hospital
Board of Directors.
Past Chair Marlen Vincent
presented her with the very
first honourary gavel at the
June 27 hospital annual meet-
ing.
In accepting the position she
told the annual meeting there
will be many challenges in the
health care industry.
Past Chairs of the Seaforth
Community Hospital Board of
Directors were also honoured
at the hospital's annual meeting
last Tuesday. They were named
honourary members of the
board.
The past Chairs of the
Seaforth Community Hospital
are:

Marlen Vincent 1993-95
Chris Smith and Marlen
Vincent were re-elected to
three-year terms on the Board
of Directors of Seaforth Com-
munity Hospital.
Ken Oldacre and Tony Arts
were also named Directors of
the Board for three-year terms.
Sandra Smithers was re-
appointed to the Board for a
two-year term.
Seaforth Community Hospital
took a look at the past year's
events during the June 27
annual meeting:
Notable events in the life of
the hospital, over the course of
the 1994-95 fiscal year, were:
'The naming of John Piron as
new Chief Financial Officer.
'The hospital met its budget
despite a reduction in funding
from the provincial government
as a result of the Social Con-
tract
• An HIV • Look -Back and
Patient Notification program
was undertaken by the hospital.
• A Total Quality Management
program was started for more
effective delivery of service.
•Patient -related equipment has
been upgraded with the pur-
chase of an electric operating
table, . an ECG monitor and a
small parts transducer for the
Ultrasound machine.
• Physical plant improvements
were also made such as the
installation of a steam boiler
and a new lighting system for
the second Operating Room.
•The formation of a charitable
Seaforth Community Hospital
Foundation with Marlen
Vincent as its first President.
•The addition of a midwife to
Seaforth Community Hospital.
The first hospital-based mid-
wifery delivery is anticipated in
late June or early July.
•The hospital instituted the
practice of storing 0 Negative
blood on site in order to
improve response to emergency
and trauma situations.
• Former Chief of Staff Dr. Al
Haines left the hospital but Dr.
Janet Zettel joined the medical
staff.
• A strategic planning document
was completed by the hospital.

board. Attending the ceremony were Fred Tilley, Gord Rimmer, Dave Comish, Mayen
Vincent, Emma Friend, Jim Crocker and John Longstaff.

NEW DIRECTORS - New Directors of the Board of Seaforth
Community Hospital, named last Tuesday, were Ken
Oldacre and Tony Arts.
"This document provides us
with a blueprint of our future
aspirations and will be of
assistance in our upcoming
discussions with our fellow
Huron -Perth hospitals and the
District Health Council," said
Bill Thibert, Chief Executive
Officer.
•Seaforth Community Hospital
will save about $12,000 per
year due to a partnership agree-
ment with St. Joseph's Hospital
in London which allowed a
new I.V. contract with the
hospital's supplier.
-.The . Fire Dispatch Service
from the hospital was increased
to include Blyth, Clinton and
Exeter.

Dr. Alan Kosaric will be
joining the medical staff of
Seaforth Community Hospital
for at least a short time starting
this summer, according to a
report to the hospital's annual
meeting.
There will be six family
physicians at the hospital with
his arrival. One of the current
doctors is an anaesthetist and
another is a general surgeon.
