Van Dooren makes cuts
A Seaforth-arca hockey
player has made it to the final
camp for the Ontario Under -17
team.
Mark Van Dooren, of RR 1
Seaforth, goes to the final five-
day camp for the 90 remaining
players at Waterloo this
weekend. Fifteen players from
six regions in the province are
going. The final squad will be
made up of 20 players.
Van Dooren scored about 85
goals as a right winger with the
Seaforth bantams and midgets
last season, and is also s la in
"triple A" bantam summer
hockey at Durham this sum-
mer.
He has survived two try -out
camps so far for the Under -17
team, the first at Cainp Borden
in April and the other last
month in Lindsay.
Van Dooren has been invited
to a couple of junior B camps
later this summer and says if
they don't pan out he would
likc to play for the Seaforth
junior "D"evelopment Cen-
tenaires next winter "if he can
inake it".

BREAK BEFORE EXAMS - Senior students and staff at
Seaforth District High School played an exhibition ball game
last Wednesday. Teacher Linda Doig took a determined
swing at the ball on this play. All activities now grind to a
halt at the local high school as students are writing final
exams.
LAZY DAYS OF SUMMER - The Seaforth Lawn Bowling
Club hosted both men's and womens' tournaments on
separate days last week.

last week. On Wednesday it
was a men's pairs and high
team for the day was Jack
Muir and Bob Doig with 3
wins and 2nd place went to
Harold and Paul Mutter the
father and son team from
Thistle Club London. In third
place were John Kindesman
and John Patterson of Stratford.
Fourth prize went to Bill
Graham and Grant Johnston of
St. Marys while the consolation
prize was won by Jack
McDonald and Jack Fisher of
Lucknow..
Thursday, June 15 saw
eleven greens in play for ladies
pairs' tournament. In first place
where Jane Treleaven and
Marg Soloman of Lucknow
with 3w+40. Second went to
Seaforths Carol Carter and
Edna Bell with 3w+39. Third
was Mary Higgins and Frances
Boyd to play
in Japan
Hockey player Boyd
Devereaux of Seaforth, the first
17 -year-old picked in this
province in the recent major
junior A hockey draft by the
Kitchener Rangers, has earned
another honour.
He has been selected to play
on Canada's under -18 team
that will be in Japan this
August playing in the Pacific
Cup tournament.

an interesting competition.
Friday evening, June 23 will
be a fun evening at the
Seaforth Greens starting at 7
p.m. All members are asked to
bring a new bowler and hot
dogs and beverage will be
served after.
COMEBACK - Midfielder Dave Murray of St. Columban's men's soccer team battles for the
ball with an unidentified Benfica player in Friday night's 3-2 win for the locals. That's Wayne
Ryan in the middle. Murray set up Steve Ryan twice in the entertaining game, as St.
Columban held tough after falling behind early 2-0.
