Manor enjoys patio party
A wonderful outdoor 'Patio
Party' was held this past week
at Seaforth Manor Nursing
Home in honour of Father's
Day. A perfect summer
afternoon proved a wonderful
setting as Jack and Irene
Vincent provided an excellent
program of country and
western music. Residents
donned cowboy hats for the
afternoon and relaxed under
our patio umbrellas. Residents
look forward to a rctum visit
from the Vincents! Seaforth
Manor's Garden Club was very
busy planting new 'table
gardens', located in the
enclosed courtyard. These table

Ottawa. All members must real-

Last Friday, Steckle bucked
his government for the second
time in a week when 'he voted
against the government's anti -
hate legislation.
Bill C-41,, which was passed
168-51, will tighten sentences
for crimes motivated by hate.
The law will require judges to
increase sentences for crimes
motivated by hate based on,
among other things, race, reli-
gion, sex, or sexual orientation.
Steckle said his motivation
for voting against the legisla-
tion was based on the govern-
ment's refusal to define sexual
orientation.
"We asked for a definition,
but it wasn't to be," said
Steckle. "When we look at the
.variety of sexual orientations
today, does this term, sexual
orientation, also include
necrophiliacs, or pedophiles.
"All these things are unde-
fined in this legislation."
Steckle said he also felt
"morally" obligated to oppose
the bill.
"People who know me, know
that my moral values are close
to those of Roseanne S4coke (a
Nova Scotia Liberal MP who
led a moral crusade against the
bill)," said Steckle. "Some
might think this is strictly a
Christian value, but I can tell
you that we have had tremen-
dous support from the Sikh and
Chinese communities.
"So it's a human value, that
homosexuality, by its very
nature, is not natural."
Steckle said he has no control
over a person's sexual orienta-
tion, but that those preferences
"should be kept in the bedroom.
"But now, it's all over the
streets. They (homosexuals)
want special days. Are we
going to make a special day for
heterosexuals?"
Steckle said that under the
Charter of Rights and
Freedoms, homosexuals already
have rights.
"I'm not going to apologize
for my opinions," said Steckle.
"And I'm certainly not going to
stay away from the legislature
to avoid voting on an issue."
Steckle said that many
aspects of the anti -hate legisla-
tion are good.
"Almost every measure
was good, except this one," he
said. "I had to stand up for what
I believe."
When asked whether he felt
his stance against the two gov-
ernment bills would have any
affect upon government initia-
tives the Huron -Bruce riding,
Steckle said "not at all.
"I can tell you this - If I am
ever mistreated, the public will
find out about it."

So far onions and radishes
have peeked through the soil
with carrots and beets still to
come! Our final moming of
bowling for the season was
enjoyed. A special thank -you
goes out to Mrs. Vanden Akker

Fire board
rejects tender
for pumper
The Seaforth Arca Fire Com-
mittee wants to sell its used
pumper, recently replaced by a
more modern unit, but not at
any price.
At its May 29 meeting the
board rejected as "too low" the
only tender so far received for
the 1975 pumper. It was for
$2,700 from a Qudbec man.
The committee sct a higher
minimum sale price and
authorized Fire Chief George
Garrick to sell the used unit at
this minimum or higher.
