Seaforth Community Hospital
recognized Dr. Ed Malkus for
more than 40 years of service
during the Service recognition
Awards Ceremony on Wednes-
day, June 14.
Also being recognized for
service to the hospital were

Recognized for 20 years of
service to Seaforth Community

Women honoured for
service to Auxiliary

Two women were honoured
on June 13 for their combined
75 years of service to the
Seaforth Hospital Auxiliary.
Dorothy Hays received an
Outstanding Service Pin for her
work with the Hospital Auxili-
ary from 1939-1994. Joan
Chesney was presented with a
framed certificate . for more
than 20 years of service to the
Hospital Auxiliary.
Perfect attendance scrolls
were awarded to Pauline
Bennett, Susan Dick, Dorothy
Hays, Betty HuIley, Marie
Kelly, Mary Margaret
Maloney, Margaret Marian
Mennell, Lottclla Montgomery,
Margaret Smalc and Geraldine
Wilson.
The Seaforth Hospital Auxili-
ary bursary has been opened up
to include all students in the
Seaforth Community Hospital
catchment arca who are pursu-
ing a cancer in a health-related
field at an approved college.
The successful applicant will
be presented with the bursary
at the Auxiliary's September
pot luck supper meeting on
Sept. 12.
Forms for the bursary are
available from Yvonne Kit-
chen, Director of Volunteer
Services, at Seaforth Commun-
ity Hospital.
In July and August the
Seaforth Hospital Auxiliary
will be placing Mason Jars in
stores to raise money.
Frances Teatero, chairperson
of Region 2 of Hospital Auxili-
ary Association of Ontario, told
the crowd at the annual June
dinner that Hospital Auxiliaries
raise tens of millions of dollars
a year for health care.

China is a country which has
seen great changes, said guest
speaker Joyce Doig, of RR 4
Seaforth, at the annual June
dinner of the Seaforth Hospital
Auxiliary.
She told the crowd of Hospi-
tal Auxiliary members that she
saw changes when she returned
Welfare costs
down in Huron
Reeve Bill Bennett, the
town's representative on Huron
County Council, reported that
welfare costs in Huron are
relatively low and getting lower
at last week's meeting of
Seaforth Council. He said the
cost of social services in the
county was down by 12.09 per
cent at the end of March,
compared to the first three
months of last year, with more
welfare recipients being trained
and joining the work force.
Reeve Benneu added ad-
justed welfare costs per capita
here in Huron arc the fifth
lowest of the 61 reporting
municipalities in the province
at 2.31 per cent. Kingston
topped the list at 10.99 per
cent.

China is one of the fastest
growing economies in the
world, the guest speaker sug-
gested.
Joyce Doig visited China in
1989 and the fall of 1993 as
part of the Citizen Ambassador
Program. She also visited the
former USSR in 1991.

presented an award of recognition to Dr. Ed Malkus for more
than. 40 years. of service at the hospital. Chief Executive
Officer Bill Thibert applauds in the background. The award
was presented at the Service Recognition Awards Ceremony
on Wednesday at Seaforth Golf and Country Club. An open
house will honour Dr. Malkus on Wednesday, June 21
(tonight).
