He praised Bob Rae and thanked his campaign team. "We've got a lot to be proud about." After his speech Klopp told a reporter the election result was not a total surprise in light of polls prior to the election. "My view of the world is I did the best I could." Klopp said he ran for what he believed in but respected that people had a different view of the issues. "People believed in the prom- ises." The young Zurich -area farmer said he is glad to be in Huron and said "I've got a farm at home, two great kids and a great wife." Some Klopp supporters ques- tioned whether Mike Harris can deliver on his promises, such as a dramatic 30 per cent tax cut. "1 feel myself that Harris has more or less bluffed the people to believe something he can not produce," said Wayne Young. For 17 -year-old high school student Greg Young, of Saltford, the loss in Huron riding was hard to take. He had worked for many hours as office manager on the cam- paign. He said many people took Harris' promises at face value and didn't understand the con- sequences. There were some signs of emotion at the reception. One person attending the event told a reporter, who was wearing a tic, "You're a Tory...you look like a Tory." At the end of the night, Klopp had finished third but only 81 votes behind second - place finisher, Liberal John Jewitt. Progressive Conservative candidate . Helen Johns, from Exeter, rode the Tory wave to victory. Tuckersmith wrestles with 9-1-1 Councillors at Tuckersmith Township Council have started to wrestle with the challenge of renaming municipal roads for 9-1-1 emergency service. At the June 6 meeting the council discussed the results of a meeting held in Blyth on May 31. 9-1-1 Project Coordinator Carol Leeming had answered questions at the Blyth meeting. Reeve Bill Camochan noted that Tuckersmith Township is shaped like a 'V', which cre- ates some problems for naming continuous roads. "I think the biggest problem is that all the municipalities have to meet (together) on this thing," he said. Council touched upon the issue of whether roads would be renamed after trees, flowers, birds, bees or other classifica- tions. Council was advised not to name roads after family names because of a more extensive public consultation process required. Tuckersmith Township will be required to put up six signs at railway crossings at a total cost of between S2,500 and S3,000. Transport Canada has requested the improved signs. ...FOR ALL YOUR CLEANING NEEDS...
