"CANADIAN MADE
CANADIAN OWNED
FOR CANADIAN CONDITIONS"
SEASON
AT HESSENLAND
After months of preparation t
on Highway 21 is ready again for the summer season.
A new chef from Germany, Harald Popp, has been hired with the
help of John Gillespie and Laura Overholt of the Goderich and Exeter
Canadian Employment Centres.
"That's what has brought our guests back for over 10 years," said
manager Christa Ihrig, referring to the authentic German cuisine pre-
pared on the premises and served by Hessenland's experienced staff.
Ihrig thinks it's a great learning experience for young Canadian stu-
dents who train every year at Hessenland to work closely with a sea-
soned German chef and benefit from the experience.
The restaurant is open for Sunday brunch and Saturday buffet dinner
throughout the summer. Hessenland is the ideal place for banquets,
corporate functions, weddings, anniversaries, birthday parties and
other celebrations of up to 200 people. Bus tours are welcome at
Hessenland.
Guests will enjoy the unique German decor in any one of the. 15
comfortable rooms, some with fireplaces. The Towersuite features a
canopy waterbed, whirlpool bath and sitting room upstairs with a
fireplace, ideal for a romantic get -away.
Visitors to Hessenland are free to walk in the perennial garden and
enjoy the flowers and plants. Guests can have a relaxing lunch or
dinner on the terrace overlooking the garden and watch the graceful
Hannoverian horses in the field.
Ernst and Christa Ihrig's eldest son, Frank, has just completed a
Bachelor of Commerce university degree. Frank has worked at
Hessenland for many years and will be going to Germany in August
to be an apprentice chef for two years. Eric Ihrig, 10, helps with
groundskeepipg at Hessenland. '
Hessenland has been entertaining guests for over 10 years with deli-
cious German food in a beautiful country setting that continues to
make it 'a place to remember."
