St. Columban edges Olympics
St. Columban beat London
Olympics 2-1 when the two
teams met in London &
District Soccer Association,
Second Division play
Thursday.
The home side started the
scoring early on some good
passing by Wayne Ryan, Steve
Mclnally unselfishly left the
ball for Steve Ryan who drove
it into the open net.
St. Columban added to its
lead 10 minutes later thanks to
some good work by Jim
O'Reilly. He moved the ball
well up the field and put a nice
through ball towards the goal
tender. Brian Melady and Jason
van der Velde helped each
other put the ball past the
keeper for what would turn out
to be winning goal.

Students compete in track
The highlight for Walton
Public School this week has
been track and field - Walton's
first attempt at it. What was
unique about the day is the
event included grades two,
three and four.
A very excited Tina Bueckert
(grade 4) came to school last
week with news that she has a
new baby brother. Apparently,
her Mom and Dad were
planning on flying to Mexico
but they got as far as the
London Airport and the baby
decided it was time to enter the
world.
The Kindergarten class had a
visit from 'Corduroy' the bear.
Continuing in their Snail unit
in Grade two Nicholas Giller
brought in some land snails.
Dan Eedy showed the class
some water snails that he had
collected.
Although the grade one's
didn't participate in the track
and field they did watch some
of the events and then had their
own events during gym.
Well the Walton Ball park
now has two new lights up and
a new sign that was designed
and painted by Sharon Brown
of Walton.
The little village will be busy
this coming weekend starting
Friday, June 2 with an old time
dance down at the hall and a
baseball toumament will be
going on during the weekend
as well.
On behalf of the Walton
Community I'd like to extend
our deepest sympathy to Gloria
Love, whose father, Harvey
Buerman, died this past week.
Doug and Marjory Fraser
visited with Dorothy and
Gordon Riseborough of
Uxbridge and June and
Leonard Webster of Oakwood,
ON, friends of Dougs from this
days on the Ontario Cream
Board. Doug and Marjory's
daughter Cheryl Maden and
new baby Lucas spcnt a week
with them.
Neil and Marie McGavin
visited with Ruth and Bruce
Kelso of Sault Ste. Marie
where Marie attended a
surprise bridal shower for
Heather McGavin. While on
the subject of McGavins, Brian
and Shelley McGavins new
baby's name is Abby Quinn.
Due to Rev. Randy Banks
being away for a Conference
(Sault Ste Marie) this Sunday,
a very capable Graeme Craig
took the service.
Graeme presented to the
congregation a reading by
Betsy Schwarzentraub called
'Giving her all'.
Graeme announced next
Sunday is Pentecost and holy
Baptism. Everyone is
encouraged to wear red and or
yellow to symbolize the
"Tongues of Fire". June 11 is
Anniversary Sunday and Rev.
Al Johnston will be the guest
speaker. The UCW will meet
June 7.
