VANDEN HOVEN
Birds came from all
directions heading towards
Gerda Vanden Hoven's
home on May 15. After
reciting the 4-1-1 pledge,
members answered the roll
call by saying. What advice
our mothers have given us.
Finalizing the achievement
plans members were ready
for the fun to begin. Mem-
bers made a bird in a nest
craft from a grapevine nest,
glue, babies breath, ribbons,
and of course a bird. With
the creative minds the
results were fascinating and
all members had a beautiful
arrangement to place in
their homes. All the crafts
made during the project
will be on display at the
achievement program.

The Federated Women's
Institutes of Ontario will
welcome over 3,500 members
and friends to the Ontario
Agricultural Museum, Milton,
on Wednesday, June 14, to a
Quilt Show and Turkey
Barbecue. Visitors from across
Ontario are expected to arrive
at 9 a.m. for a full day of
events to kick off the
celebrations planned to honour
the 100th Anniversary of the
Women's Institute.
The first Women's Institute
branch was formed in 1897 at
Stoney Creek, Ontario, in
r6sponse to a concern for the
safety of food. The
determination of those early
members was rewarded when
the pasteurization of milk
became a reality. It was not
long before the reputation of
this Women's Institute branch
spread, and, new groups
formed across Ontario, across
Canada, and, finally worldwide.
Today, Women's Institute
members are proud to uphold
that "community spirit", of
which Ontario can be so proud,
as they meet the needs of the
community, and , the personal
growth of its members.
