London's Harry Murray shot
a gross score of 72 as the
overall winner of the fourth
annual Senior Men's In-
vitational at the Scaforth Golf
and Country Club last Wednes-
day.
He was the top finisher in the
first flight, for those aged 50 to
57. The day was wet and chil-
ly, but the tournament still
attracted 120 entrants from
Sarnia, London, Toronto, Port
Elgin, Guelph, Owen Sound
and points in between.
Jim Irons of Owen Sound
shot a 75 to take the second
flight, for those aged 57 to 63,
and Seaforth's own Ken Doig
Sr. won his flight for the
fourth -straight time, this time
for those aged 64 to 70, with a
score of 78.
Bruce Cantelon of Toronto
was only four strokes worse
than his age. The 72 -year-old
was the fourth lowest in the
entire field with a gross score
of 76.
Bob Morton was the oldest
golfer in the field at 80.
In other happenings at the
local links, the Seaforth Club is
hosting the Ontario Junior Girls
Golf Championship for the first
time, this July 10 to 12. Last
year it was at the Dundee
course near Hamilton. The
championship is for girls aged
18 and under. The Doigs of
Seaforth and area are also the
subject of an interesting cover
story in the Spring issue of Tee
ro Green Golf Magazine, that
calls them Southwestern On-
tario's "First Family of Golf".

weeks senior men's event

In another track note of local
interest, Brad Snyder of
Windsor St. Joe's recently
broke the Canadian high school
senior shot put record of 19.69
metres set in 1980 by
Seaforth's Johnny Nielsen.
Nielsen still holds the junior
record, more than 15 years old.
