On Friday exeeing, lest the schol-
ars of the eligh'Schecil here 'held a
social evening. aethee,sehool. A skat-
ing party wastohave been held but
owing te the. conditipe of the ice this
idea had to be ,abandoned. The even-
ing was spent at the sehool in
games, contesteree'eth., at the close
of which a 'lunch, was indulged in.
This part ,ef the evening fun was
thoroughly*enjoyed by all.
On Friday evening last a number
)from town went down to Exeter and
witnessed, our local epeed •skater,
Mr. Lee "Redden,' easily win a 22 -
round rece ohltlee -Exeter ,ice. His
opponent Mr. Ed. Anderson, led the
race foe the -first couple of rounds
but as sopn as .Lee got his stride it
diel -not take' Inhcit effort to pass his
opponent. Mr. Hedden stepped out
a littleeand-gained a lap on Ander-
soneand shortly after this occurred,
Anderson quit, having gene only 13
rounds leaving Hilden t•o finish 'out
the race alone. •
DEATH OF MRS. DICK.
The death °courted on Friday
morning in St.' . joSeph's Hospital,
London, of Mrs. Mary -Dick, relict of
the late Gilbert Dick, aged 64 years.
Mrs. Dick has been ailing for some
time and was'finally taken to St.
Joseph's Hospital for an operation,
which ended in her death. Mrs. Dick
lived in Kippen for 'a number of
years and some 20 years ago moved
to Hensel]. with her husband and
family, and shortly after moving
here Mr. Dick died.She is surviv-
ed by two daughtera, Mrs. Andrews
of Seaforth and Miss. Violetlat home
and three sons, Roy of Watford,
Wallace of. -Detroit and Herb at
home. Interment took place in Hen -
salt cemetery. ott IVeonday afternoon.

The funeral of the late Gottfried

on Saturdar Was held Tuesday morn-

Detroit after visiting her parents, for

A very pleasant afternoon was
spent at the home of Mrs. (Dr.)
Orme on Tuesday, Feb. 3rd., When
the members of the Crediton Wo-
men's Institute held their monthly
meeting. Mrs, Zwieker presided
and the program included a. cluett
by Mrs. F. W. Clark and Mrs. Jos.
Woodall and a solo by Miss Gladys
Wolfe, both of Which were much ens• .
joyed. Mrs. Maynard gave a very.
interesting paper on "Institute Work
in the Community" which contained
many helpful suggestions along the
• line of community activities. The
members decided to have a speaker
from the :Department for the „slim-
mer meeting and also to invite the
members of the Zurich Institute to
be- :their guests at that time. The
\pieeting was aoncluded with a flow--;
er contest and the committeee in
charge served. ae delicious lunch.
DEATH OF GOPIFBrIED MANGUS -
Gottfried Mangus was .born
nary 20th, 1846 at tidemark, .Ger-
many, and departed this life Feb. 7
1925, aged 79 years and 18 days, at
the home of his son-in-law and dau-
ghter, Mr. and Mrs. M. Guenther, of
Kitchener. Here he had a comfort -
'able home and tender ministry at the
hands of his daughter, and family.'
The departed came to. America in
1873 locating in East Crediton, Ste-
phen, Tp,; where be resided during
his entire life excepting the last five
months. He was united in marriage
to Fredericka Proechel. This union
was blest with four sons and five
daughters. One son and one daught-
er died in infancy. His, beloved com-
panion and another daughter, Mrs.
Ball also predeceased him 8 years.
Bro. M: began the Christian life
when Rev, F. F. Meyer was pastor
at Crediton. He joined the chutch
being a faithful member until death.
He is survived by three sons and
three daughters, Louis, of Reciae,
Wis. Frederick, of Detroit; Harry
of B. G., Mrs. Guenther, of Kitelaere
er; Mrs. Kennedy, of Winnipeg; Mis ents Me. and Mrs. Richards.
