Seaforth cadet to travel to Wales
BY TIM CUMMING
Expositor Editor
An army cadet from Seaforth
is headed to Wales this sum-
mer as part of a senior
exchange.
He is one of only four army
cadets from Ontario who have
been accepted on the trip.
Glen Anderson will leave for
Europe on July 1 and spend
about six weeks, until August
11. Only 50 army cadets across
Canada have been accepted to
travel on the Wales exchange
and only about 150 army
cadets are accepted on out -of -
country exchanges each year.
Very few army cadets from
this region have attended a
senior exchange.
"He's had to do a lot of hard
work to get there," says Glen's
proud stepfather, Ken Moms.
"He's done a lot, he teaches a
lot of courses to other cadets."
Overseas, Glen will represent
Canada while visiting promi-
nent places in Wales and Eng-
land including military bases
and possibly Buckingham
Palace.
At the age of 17, Glen
Anderson has done almost
anything an army cadet can do.
As Chief Warrant Officer, he
holds the highest rank available
to a cadet.
Last year he was the first-
ever recipient of the London
United Services Institute Cadet
Citizenship Award. The winner
is selected from cadets all over
Ontario.
Glen, a tirade 12 student at
Seaforth District High School,
recently received his Gold Star
with Wreath. He was one of
only about 30 cadets, out of a
total of 80, who passed the
demandingtest which includes
physical ftness and knowledge
components. He hopes to
achieve the next level, which is
Master Cadet.
Glen has been active in
Cadets for about five years. He
continued travelling to Stratford
every Wednesday night even
after moving to Seaforth three
years ago. Ile belongs to the
433 Perth C ,u:.ty Royal Cana-
dian Army Cadet Corps.
In the past he has attended
six-week basic camp, a six-
week camp to be a cadet leader
and a six-week camp to be a
cadet leader instructor.
"It's a riot when you go to
summer camps," says Glen.
"There are so many people
who you meet."
The age for Cadets is 12-18,
so Glen has only one year left
in the program. When he
leaves the Cadets he hopes to
study to become a police
officer. He would also like to
return to the Cadet program
some time as an Officer.
Glen lives in Seaforth with
his mother, Debbie Morris, and
stepfather Ken.
"We're really proud of him,"
they say.
