Animals
abound
for area
archers
BY GREGOR CAMPBELL
Expositor Staff
Cougars, bears, deer, wild
pigs, elk, antelope, turkeys,
Mexican pigs, rabbits and fox,
among other things, all abound
on a seven -acre site near
Seaforth.
And this menagerie can take
a lickin' and keep on tickin'.
You can see for yourself
Sunday when the Silvercreek
Archery Club has an open
house at its 3-D Archery
Course.
The animals are three-
dimensional targets made of a
tough -type of self-sealing
material, suitable for repeated
puncture by arrows.
They inhabit a unique course,
in many respects similar to a
golf course, at RR 1 Seaforth
that archers play in an attempt
to record the best score.
There are 16 stations and 30
targets, challengingly
positioned so that slower
enthusiasts aren't always
looking over their shoulder
worrying whether they will be
mistaken for some new kind of
animal.
You get three attempts at
each target, and your score
depends on where the archer
hits it. Any kind of bow is
allowed; crossbows, recurved,
straight or compound. The
sport is growing in popularity
and can be an enjoyable family
outing. Beginners are welcome.
The longest shoot is about 50
yards and the shortest
approximately 15. Wooden cut-
outs indicate where the stations
are, and hangers allow archers
to temporarily get away from
their bow without having to
throw it on the ground.
There is even a warm-up
range, the equivalent of a
driving range at a golf course.
The bush is raked to keep the
mosquitos down.
Th^ President of the
Silvercreek Archery Club,
Kevin Henderson, says it has
about 30 members and this is
the fourth season for the
course, which is usually in
operation from April to
October. In its first season the
course was not as elaborate.
with only five 3-D targets and
the others simply cut-outs.
Membership fees are used to
pay for the targets and their
upkeep.
Sunday's open house goes
from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. To get

the best score when the shoot a round, much like at a golf

Then travel north to the last

be well -marked for Sunday's
event.

PLAN OF THE WEEK
PLAN NO. GL -633
EFFICIENT HOME DESIGN SUITS
FRONT AND REAR VIEW PROPERTY
BY M. TYNAN
Copyright 1994
Sundecks, fro, ad rear, ensure that the view will be captured from this efficiently designed base-
ment home.
Note the lack of wasted space. An open plan for the living and dining room creates a spacious arca
for entertaining and features a stylish bay window, and access from the living room to the front deck.
A country kitchen style atmosphere, complete with a cosy gas fireplace, is achieved by combining the
kitchen and family room. The cook in the family will enjoy plenty of cupboard and counter space, and
can look over a half wall into the family room and breakfast area. Sliding glass doors lead out to the
rear sundcck - a perfect place to set up the barbecue. The washer and dryer are conveniently located
upstairs where all of the laundry is generated.
Both front bedrooms are a good size, and feature half -bay window seats. The master boasts a walk-in
closet and a three piece ensuite with a built-in vanity.
Downstairs, a den, just inside the front entrance, would make an ideal home office. A large unfin-
ished area awaits your own creative touch.
Plans for GL -633 may he obtained for 5375.00 for a package of five complete sets of working prints
and 534.00 for each additional set of the same plan. Allow 515.00 extra to cover the cost of postage
and handling (B.C. residents add applicable sales tax to plan total) (All Canadian residents add 7'
GST to plan total plus postage and handling).
This is one of our new designs. Many innovative plans are now available in our home plan catalogue
for S1185 including postage and handling and 7% GST.
