Catholics to be
hired by board
continued from front page
They "may be
considered for the positions of
subject coordinator, department
head, consultant and/or
coordinator". The policy adds non-
Catholics "will not be considered
for the position of vice-principal,
principal and supervisory officer."
The area separate school board
has taken two voluntary Catholic
teaching transfers from the Huron
County Board of Education,
Seaforth Trustee Gerry Ryan said.
He is Chair of the Joint Secondary
School Liaison -Extension
Committee, and said it is not the
boards' intent to put teachers out of
work.
A report of the joint committee
submitted by Ryan noted about 100
high school students are expected to
swing to St. Michael and St. Anne's
from Huron County Board
secondary schools from September
1994 to the start of the next school
year, but "the Huron board does not
expect to have to designate any
teachers".
An April 7 letter that was tabled
from Madeline Hardy, Chair of
Ontario's Planning and
Implementation Commission,
applauded the Board's intention to
work with the Huron County Board
"to develop a voluntary agreement
covering the matter of teacher
designation for the near future".
A resolution from the Huron
County Board that it approach
"other low assessment rural Public
and Catholic boards to pursue joint
lobbying efforts on behalf of
financial interests of mutual
concern", and that a letter be sent
to Ontario Education Minister
David Cooke "expressing our on-
going concern about the impact of
assessment equalization factors on
the property tax burden in the
period 1995 to 1997," was referred
to the Huron -Perth Board's
Management Committee.
In other matters, The Chair of the
Huron -Perth RCSS Board's Special
Education Advisory Committee,
Dennis O'Reilly, submitted a report
noting the board had 4533 pupils as
of Sept. 28, 1994, and that it
provides special education programs
and services to 368 exceptional
pupils, or 8.14 per cent.
The Principal of St. James
School, Jim McDade, addressed
trustees early on the agenda and
said standards are the heart of
output -based education at the local
school, with a recent focus on
improved communication by
students. Two pupils gave small
speeches to the trustees as an
example.
