The Central West Juvenile Boys' Broomball Team is heading to the 4th National Junior Broomball Championships in Cornwall from April 17 to 30. The team is made up of boys 16-18 years old from broornball leagues in Seaforth, Blyth, Palmerston and Mildmay. The team earned the opportunity to attend the Nationals with their placement at the provincial cham- pionships. While at the Nationals the team will have the opportunity to play teams from Alberta, Saskatchewan, Manitoba, Ontario, Quebec, New Brunswick, Nova Scotia and Newfoundland. The players on the team are Steve Dearing, Harold Hugill, Scott and Steve Leonhardt, Mike Smale, Bill Wolverines win playoffs April 13 was the last night of playoff bowling for the Thursday Nighters Bowling League. It all came down to the last game, as the Wolverines and the Wannabees were both vying for the title. The big winners were the Wolver- ines with a total pinfall of 17425. Before the last game, the Wannabees were just 8 pins ahead of the Wolverines, who managed to bowl super games to secure the win. Bowling for the Wolverines were Jason Wheatley; Karsten Carroll 180; Connie Trotter 205; Don Brown 228, 214 and Mike Thomson 200, 212,206-618. The Wannabees ended their sea- son with 17303 points to come in second place, but they were also the league champs. Great games came` from Stan Mailloux 202; Sandra Klaver 203; Tracy Klaver 180; Pat Ryan 210; Brian Barry 219,240-654 and Steve Steep 215. Coming in third place were The Buds with 16949 points. This team had only five bowlers and they managed to stay near the top in both league and playoff series. Bowlers for the team were Jason Cooper; Sheila Wright 142; Patricia Schwarz 219-552; Gary Bedard and John Coleman. The Boozin' Brewers went from last place the week before, to finish in fourth place with 16756. Helping out the team were Bob Wright 185; Heather Alce 123; Sharri MacDonald 181; Nancy Sue Thomson 193-547; Trevor Price and Doug Leonhard] 275,323,227-825. The Falling Pins were also another team with only 5 bowlers, but can they bowl! They ended the playoffs with 16750 points. Keeping the Pins in the hunt were Ingrid Doig 176; Betty Coleman 204; Diana Steep; Ralph Johnston 233- 609 and Doug Procter 231,207. Last, but not least come Murray's Marauders with 16723 points. These bowlers gave it their all each and every time, but they managed to come a few pins behind with 16723 points. Top bowlers for the Marauders were Todd Doig 218; Mary Wynja 161; Bonnie Janrnaat 174; Deb Bedard 207-509; Erich Matzold 187 and Murray Bennewies 280.236.217-733. Team Standings: Wolverines - 17425; Wannabees - 17303; The Buds - 16949; Boozin' Brewers - 16756; Failing Pins - 16750; Murray's Marauders - 16723. Don't forget the banquet on Fri- day, May 5 at 8 p.m. Ryan, Brad Pryce, Stefan Nichol, Jason Phelan, Russell MacLaughlin, Roger Schieck, Daryl Walters, Jeff Opperman, Ron Cunningham, Richard Wakeham, Shane Nantau. The team is coached by Brian Pryce and Robert Hunking. In 1992 the team participated in the tournament as the Ontario champions, and this is the third time since the start of the cham- pionships that the local teams or players have played. This is an indication of the calibre of players being developed in the . Minor Broomball System of the Leagues involved. The team along with the Central West Juvenile Girls hope to do Seaforth and Central West proud as they go for Gold in '95. Loons win bowling title by GEORGE LOVE The Loons won the playoff title in the St. James Bowling League on Monday, April 17 at Starlight Lanes. Kevin Johnston led the Loons with 234,292,221-747, Bob Dinsmore 222,212-613, and Martin Van Bakel 206-532. The Doves finished second paced by Don Nolan 24$-591 and Jack Ryan 201-526. The Eagles were third with top games by George Love 240,211- 615, Betty Johnston 218-563 and Lavern Godkin 258-532. Leaders for the Emus were Mark Higenell 219-599, Gord Murray 255-573 and Rob Simpson 200-497. High bowlers for the Partridges were Connie Marion 238,304-723 and Janice Morris 204,201-539. Martin Andreassi led the Jays with 298,255-694 and Murray Bennewies 226,208,218-652. Members of the Loons were Bob Dinsmore, Kevin Johnston, Martin Van Bakel, Johonna Goodman and Murray Rollinson. Seniors' bowling hosts banquet On Wednesday, April 19 the Senior's Bowling League for '94-95 ended with a sumptuous meal pre- pared by the Legion Ladies Auxili- ary. President Olave Little welcomed all and grace was delivered by Gladys Doig. Ralph Johnston gave a few words in appreciation for the great league and said he will look forward to seeing everyone back in September. Next the awards were given by Olave and Secretary Betty Leonhardt. GREGOR CAMPBELL PHOTO LARGE TURNOUT - More than 75 young people showed up for the first practice of the Seaforth In -Line Roller Hockey League at the community Centres Thursday night. The registration may rise as organizers feel there is enough interest to expand with a beginner's division, for six to eight -year-olds. There is another practice this Thursday ( 8 to 12 -year-olds, 6:30 p.m.; 13 to 15, 7:45 p.m.) and the league begins play on May 4.
